A little late on this post but, in lieu of reel seats with hook keepers... I have a Lews Custom Pro Speed spool reel which comes with a very durable hook keeper. It flips out if you need it and stores back when in use as fishing. It's a great idea and maybe one that other manufacturers should look into. I have had a number of requests for no hook keeper on the rod due to line tangle, rust, etc

Having built quite a few drop shot rods I can say my customers are quite pleased with the HIGH MODULUS MHX DS822 . Rated 8-14 lb line it is crisp with a 4 tip and yet powerful and light weight. Guides would be your call but I use titanium, Fuji K series or Microwave Wave guides aka Tidal Wave. For the money it is one sweet drop shot blank. Tom tomscustomrods.com

Also rod manufacturers call one rod a IM6 and another calls ît a 30 Ton graphite. What the heck is 30 Tom graphite? X2. On Michael Daneks suggestion. Those decalsl are a pain in the butt and waste a LOT of time in the building process. 6 to 7 inches up would be perfect . Rod Geeks used to put the id on with a rubber band which was nice but I guess in handling they may have come off at the factory so, no more.

Just looked for the first time online at the CRB guides and they are priced right for sure. What I would like to know is they list them as standard, performance and elite. That really doesn't tell me much as far as to what ring is in them other than figuring the higher the price the better the grade of aluminum oxide. With their track record I was thinking of insuring a blank for $1000.00 and sending to my son in Florida knowing it would be broken then collect the insurance. Terry cut down the guide foot and take a large amount of thread off the guide. Turn it over and look at the color of the thread underneath the epoxy that is what you are looking to match up not what is showing on top of the guide. You can enlarge the thread color chart on Mudhole's Pro wrap thread on line and put it next to the screen and you should find a pretty close match. Tom

Brandon good call on the Flex cost. I tried the Pro Kote and for the same reason quite using it. It never seems to harden although it works it is not for me. One the Flex Coat you may want to go with the Hi Build it is easy to use, just warm it up before applying. As to the Ulta V time will tell, it is all I use and I am really pleased with the results. Thanks for the suggestions. Matthew I am a big fan of the Rod Geeks rods and do around 30 a year of their product. I'll check with my customer and see how he feels about the 6'6" although mostly I use the Bass 4 the power and action will be the same Tom
