This was the very first rod I built back in 1985. I stripped it down and rebuilt it this year (2010).
It has a Struble D27 seat with a custom turned & mortised Amboyna insert, Struble red agate stripping guide, and a custom feather inlay.

Can anyone identify this guide for me, and possible suggest where I might find some? I need to locate a couple for a repair job.
The guides are on a Hardy "Neo-Cane" rod from the mid to late 60's. The outside diameter of the ring is ~6mm or 7/32", so very small.

It works flawlessly and provides infinitesimal adjustment to the tension, much more so than the binder clip.
If you are using 1/4" allthread, buy a 1.5" fender washer with a 3/16" hole and then use a 1/4-20 tap to create the threads.
Set the rig up in this order:

I would amplify one tip that a couple of others have mentioned/hinted at that really helped me. I got the tip from Andy Dear, the original developer of Threadmaster finish.
This is just for the butt/decal wrap.
After the epoxy is applied, use your brush or spatula and even out the epoxy in full-length horizontal strokes along the length of the wrap, in parallel with the blank , back and fo
