I have never tried this Diamond 2 epoxy with the UV in it, does the UV just mean that it has glitter in it, or does it just have sunlight protection in it.

Thanks, everyone, I was a little nervous about even trying to use it as I have had the gold GudeBrod fade to almost nothing at all after about ten years of fishing in the California sun, so I was a little on the not-so-sure side of even tying it out.

I have never made one on a Flippen rod, but all my bass rods have them, and they kick butt over a handle type of setup. I have even put them on fly rods, and people just love them. The guy is about 5.8 tall and not a big boy, so I very much doubt that he would be a tummy tucker who wants a short handle. Any more suggestions? the rod is 7.6, so balancing would be kind of hard as I never balance an

I use a heat gun, after about five to ten seconds of heating the guide finish epoxy will start to come off clean, from that point on just peel the epoxy away from the guides, nice and clean.

I use heat from a heat gun, after about four to ten seconds of heat on the epoxy the epoxy will start to come off, and from there, it is just a matter of peeling and cleaning the rod.

How do I center a rod lathe to run center with the blank since the blank is tapered and every rod support will be adjusted a little bit differently?

I can remember the first rod that I made in the early 80s, I must have spent a week trying to decide on the best 3 color combo, and once I found the colors that I wanted and started to put the epoxy on the wrappings, I got to watch all my work go up in a puff of black lighter smoke duo to much heat on the epoxy.

I would not think so, I always build my split grips 7 Inches to 7.3 Inches from the back rear grip to the start of the fighting butt, but if it works just use it.

The next time, just put clear tape over writing glitter or stickers; it will never run or fish eye, and you will never see the tape.

Has anybody ever tried using an epoxy that dries with blue UV light, and if so did it dry too hard or crack while under fishing stress and what is the name of the epoxy that works for you?

Thanks Josh, I kind of expected the metallics would fade but I would have never guessed that both would, it sounds like I might want to re-think my colors.

Will metallic Perl white fade in the sun or would I be better off just staying with NCP white, it will be for a full underwrap.

To keep the ink on your labels from running after you apply your epoxy, just tape over the label with clear tape like scotch tape, and the ink will never run, and the corners will always stay down. The best part is that once the epoxy is dry, you will never see the tape seams, but the decal will show up just as well as before. I have been doing this for over 30 years and never had a single proble

I made a simple tool out of a 4x6 inch piece of wood and a sewing bobbin, Simply secure the bobble to the wood with a scraw and when finishing your butt wrap, just wind your thread around the bobbin two or three times and let your bobbin hang down it's that easy.

24. Re: Tip Top Wrap
No need to wrap the tub, just wrap it up to the tip-top tube. Wapping the top-top got started back in the 50s and it was on all rods until the 70s on fiberglass rods because fiberglass would break easily if the rod got bumped up against a hard surface. With today's graphite blanks, a tip-top wrap is not at all important. A tip-top wrap. is more of a decorative touch that custom rod builders put o

Rod tip glue is not your typical hot melt glue. It has graphite in it to protect it from melting in the heat and it dries stronger. I found out the hard way when I needed to make a quick fix to one of my rods and I used hot melt glue instead of tip-top adhesive this was in 88-degree summer heat and I made a cast and zip-zip away my rod tip went flying too as the glue melted.

Like Roger says 24 hours works best and you should make sure that the epoxy is dry or the second coat will come out soft and tacky so 24 hours is the best way to go.

I have removed old metal reel seats that were bonded with rod bond with heat and rod bond just crumbles off and it makes it easy to remove. You my be able to use a heat gun but a flame from your thread toarch would work even better as it makes it east to target one place.
