Anyone have any ideas about the makeup of the Shimano Terez rods? TC4? Sounds like good marketing speak..
They are light and powerful but there must be comparable blanks out there by other manufacture's.

Yes you could be right Bill. I recoated this morning and this time put a heater on low before hand, its coming into autumn here but the last few days have been a bit cooler than normal. Its averaging around 20-24 °C (68-75 °F) but yesterday when I did the first coat it was maybe 16-18 °C (64 °F) and today the same, hence the heater. 12 hrs later and the second coat is dry . Yes it does reco

Do you need to wait the recommended 24 hrs? The first coat is slightly tacky but I would have thought ok to whack another coat on. been 12 hours at least

CTS bought Composite Developments (CDRods - NZ) equipment when they sold out to Asia, I'm not sure if CDRods are still made in NZ but you can still get their blanks, the Albagraphs are/were? excellent . CTS have a very good reputation here as others like Kilwell who produce the blanks for Synit, I'm sure someone on the forum could give you more info though. They are expensive, I would love to be

Yes I agree they are all good quality, I can't comment on AMTAK as i've not used them but from comments I've read they get a good rap. The general question I was asking how any builders use Fuji compared to other brands. Living in NZ we are at a disadvantage when it comes to choice. There are rod companies here that use ALPS (SYNIT for one although the blanks are produced by Kilwell Tubes, and a

Only wanting to know how many builders use them in general. I read Dale Clemens books many years ago and was sold on Fuji from then on. They seem to have great detail in the manufacturing. I have some Alps XN's that I am about to use on a build and side by side to HB's they appear to be a much lighter material even though the HB's are rated only 30#. Having said that since those books were writt

In your opinion are Fuji guides the best? Its all I use, having looked at other guide manufacturer's, there doesn't seem to be the detail and quality to match them. Now Shimano's Sea-Guides are another story.. I see posts and there are plenty of people saying all guides these days are similar in quality but I don't think any come close to Fuji IMHO.

Anyone used this blank to fish? i have had one for a year or so now and find it a good rod for light saltwater fishing. A little long at 7 "6 would like something around 7 ft .slightly softer tip but in a matt finish in the 8-17 lb range. would't be using more than 5/8 - 1oz soft-plasics for saltwater in depths around 50-100 ft
I was going to use the new split grip seats from fuji but gone

I think the international shipping issue is with the respective Government agencies. New Zealand customs have outrageous import fee's. Something to take up with local MPs. But admit a few shipping Companies are creaming it! All businesses try their best but It's really out of their hands re- international shipping fee's, but Fed-Ex seem ok - but good on Mudhole for looking into it. They have a

I can second that, I wasn't expecting one either so pleasantly surprised
Thank You Mudhole great service. I'm in New Zealand so yes it's expensive. Although compared to some other vendors in the US the price is good value
UPS seems to be the heavyweight when it comes to high oversea's shipping rates ! And I must admit I've had a few shocks. Mudhole is the only vendor I buy from now. Maybe if w

Yes, Bill I have wanted to but have never tried it except for shaping preformed ones. I have a power wrapper but don't really have the power to turn cork. The other issue is sourcing the cork block/rings, I live down under in NZ ( next to that tiny island Aussie ) Sometime I'm coming to the States to get some first hand experience with the art of cork work & rod building in general. Would l

Thanks for the heads up, I will probably wait until the larger grips, these will be light saltwater rods. Hopefully Mudhole will stock those metallic winding checks also.

Cheers for the info - I also see there are silver & gold checks which look nice, have looked at a few vendors but they only stock the grey ones. Also there is a handle grip for casting but not spinning? Couldn't I just use them anyway?? Sorry about the questions but I would like to order a dozen kits and just need to be sure. Looking at Anglers Resource the shot of the two kits are exactly

I'm looking at building a couple of rods with split grips but haven't attempted this style before. It appears some winding checks are inside the down locking hoods? If so when ordering these from vendors you would need to be absolutely clear as regards to measurements? I imagine it would be a bit tricky as most people would have different ideas on placement of seats? Of course I could just need

I have also heard and am about to try myself, thin the rod bond with D.A ! Takes awhile to mix properly but my friend builds loads of offshore rods and has no problem. Also when taping the grip to protect from glue, make sure you don't wrap it too tight

Hello Bob
It's a land based rock fishing blank ( S8 13'6'' 5-8oz 2pc ) Static placement of guides would be the best bet otherwise search around for similar length/weight blanks for a guide. Fairly common here in New Zealand although generally fished with overhead guides off the rocks

Hello Brook
I'm interested in the HM-MHXSK-11 Kit but would like an aluminum winding check and trim bands to spice it up a bit the customer also wanted a longer fore grip, I'm thinking 5 inches maybe?

I have a friend who wants me to build him a light saltwater rod ( 6-12 lb ) to toss 5" Jerk-Shad soft plastics , probably around 1/4 to 3/8 oz using braid. Any suggestions on blanks?. I was interested in MHX -High Mod or the Indian River from Lamiglas? Ares the MHX High -modulus freshwater only? The kit looks ok but the split grip he would not be keen on unless it had a longer fore grip.

he wants cork so i have no choice there, yes you are right about the kingfish, they are yellowtail & they can be prolific in the area we fish, although he isn't targeting them, maiinly snapper in the 3 to 7 kg range. The line he uses is 4kg braid as most of us do down here. Im not sure we are metric here but that equates to around 10 lb im guessing. He also uses 8kg when there is foul ground
