Great Post Capt. Neil!! I took the post for what it was intended; a cry to the industry to provide a better product. I don’t think it was intended to be a Metallic vs. Nylon debate. I think both have their uses. As always the dedicated guys (on the Bass side) just want sensitivity and a desired action/power. They could care less what color you use. Most of the other guys want something

You will need a Federal EIN number in order to file a 720. Also read the 720 form instructions for 2015. This is a separate document. But the short answer to your question is yes the amount of tax you collected in the quarter. Enter the amount of excise tax you collected in box 110; box 2 (total); box 3; and I think box 10.
720 instruction states: Fishing rods and fishing poles (IRS

Mike the threaded rods the carriage come with are held in place with a set screw. The threaded rod can be extended over to one side. With a couple shims you may get by.

Tom any guidance on how thick do you leave the wood when you core them? And are you using full length arbors?

Hey Mark and Dick when you guys make these how thick do you leave the wood when you core them? And do you use the simple foam arbors and are they full length?

LOL I have an employee that use to be Spartie I guess that's how you say it. The mascot for Spartans. I was wondering if that comment would get folks going. You know the more known SEC teams.... I'm for Alabama and whoever is playing against auburn. It's all in good fun.

I thought Mud Hole had put together thread pack for all college teams. But i looked and they only have the more popular teams from the SEC...... My motto has always been Roll Tide!! This year it seems like they are rolling on a flat but I guess i will take one point wins over one point losses any day. :-)

Chuck i had a customer that wanted, I mean ordered me, to paint on 3-4 coats Polyurethane on his grips. I gave him the whole "I'm not responsible for the repairs etc.." conversation and started painting. LOL they turned out great!!! they retained the cork color and he claimed they were not slick at all. That was back in the late 90's and I have never heard any negative feedback.

you know Mud Hole's rack (MHX-Rack) looks like a nice unit. And for less than $30 I'm not sure you could build one cheaper.

Chris I have never even thought of using an arbor inside my grips. LOL we learn something new everyday. What style of arbor or you using and can you post an end view pic? Are you using them on heavy use rods like a bass flipping stick or just on lighter use stuff?

Hey Cameron another option is buy the clamp for the full length rods. Then drill two holes through the side of each board. Meaning through the 1" side, all the way through the width of the board. These holes will be centered between the original holes and the center where the rod goes through. Get some 1/4" bolts, washers and wing nuts. The bolts need to go all the way through the

You know this conversation could get interesting. As an industry of builders we could come up with a standard here. Jeremy has a good start. I have to admit, I have stepped away from this standard on a few RARE occasions for return customers. But I would think as a group we communicate very well. A "standard" or "straw man" would be great for new builders as well as the

Yes I would opt for the SJ842. And Roger makes a good point. The popping rod blank is another good option. The SJ (Spin Jig) blanks and the popping rod blanks normally have a little smaller diameter or even taper. This gives the blanks a little more forgiveness ( softer, moderate feel) in the action. These type blanks are great for crankbaits and spinner baits. Batson, MHX, SHX (Binghams b

Cameron I personally think the 843 is a little heavy for you're looking for. Even in the blend. I like the 842 range for that type build. Square bills need to have a little more flex to the rod to make them reflect of structure. I have thrown them with heavier rods and noticed I get hung up more often. People often want to throw all types of crank baits with the same rod. The trouble is t

Interesting conversation with Lure Parts, when asked about wholesale they said we are not sure how that works..... I don't see anything on their current site that speaks to a wholesale program for their current line of products.
Tom I hope I have not stepped on any sponsor issues. I was not trying to in anyway. Hopefully they will remain a sponsor.

Guys I have a customer discussing his desire to see or accentuate the seams of a cork handle. As you know we do our best to hide the seams. LOL So I was thinking maybe stain the edges prior to gluing? Or maybe coloring the glue/epoxy in some manner?
Have you guys ever run into this before? How did you handle?

Well the MHX PF1442ML-MHX would get you to 6 foot for around $30. The Pac Bay T2SP780 in the tradition II series will get you to 6'6" in the right line size for the mid $30 range. Years ago i picked up a couple blanks like your asking for from Anglers Workshop. They had them in a sale bin of fly rod seconds. They were not listed on the web. Other folks may have something similar.

This is an Interesting conversation. Have we all just assumed he is building a spinning rod?
Forum: rodboard 9 years ago

We have all done that at some point. I use a white wax marker. Find the spine and put a 1-2 inch line on the rod to mark the spine with the wax marker. Align the reel seat to that mark or 180 degrees (opposite) that mark depending on how you want the rod set up to the spine. If you set the rod up off the spine it will effect rod performance, casting distance etc.. The good thing is most

I know it's off topic but I was able to find two rods I lost after being hit by lightning in 2009 with an acu-view camera. We went back after two weeks. I knew the general area and we found them in about 10 minutes. They were in 15 foot of water and after seeing them I took a long telescoping crappie rig and brought them up.
