Bruce I agree with Tom; but, it is always best to do a test. I would have a similar wrap done on a scrap piece of similar colored blank. When you prepare your finish, coat the test piece first. Give the thread a few seconds to absorb the finish. You will see the thread have an uneven absorption look then it should change to look uniform. Then give it a quick look to ensure you like the resul

Where there is a need, someone on this site always designs a way. Someone up to the challenge. I eye ball mine in the end but during the process I use the light mounted above method.

I have a customer wanting a spinning rod built for trout fishing. He wants to throw 1/32 oz to 3/16 oz baits with 2 – 6 lb line. My problem, he wants it in a 7’6” 2-piece blank. I was tempted to offer him a fly rod blank built into a spinning rod; but, he claims they are to spongy for his liking. Does anyone have a blank recommendation?

I use 9' 6 wt fly rod blanks and love them for this application. I control the boat :-) so I let the guy in the back worry about handling a 11 - 14 foot limp noodle all day. After reading this post I think I will try the steel head blanks also.

Guys I have a young lady that has ordered a rod and brought me some ribbon, made of rayon, she wanted me to incorporate into the but wrap. Before I started looking to match some wrapping thread to the ribbon I thought I better ask the question here. Has anyone used Rayon before? Do you apply CP to it? Does it hold up well, i.e. fading etc..?

I agree with allot of what Roger stated. I am an exclusive Bass fisherman, so most of my clients are also Bass folks. To be honest this whole topic is subject to a person’s own preference. In my own personal opinion, I always use a fast/xfast tip rod when I am fishing a bait that requires a slow meticulous presentation. When fishing a jig or Texas rigged I want to maintain contact with the

I spoke with the IRS today and confirmed what Ray has stated above. They are no longer mailing the 720 form. I guess a question I have for the group is; how are you gaining the knowledge to manage all the paperwork and requirements? I asked the IRS agent about classes or training sessions specifically on excise tax and thought she was going to laugh. Tom I know you have mentioned some train

Just wanted to know how you guys slice thin strips of EVA and what epoxy do you use to glue strips and rings of EVA into a grip. Do you use a small miter box and fine tooth saw or same with a blade? I was considering slicing 1/8” strips of one color and adding them into another grip as accents. What type epoxy works best for a seamless appearance? Also does one have to be careful on

Sure I would be interested if they are large enough to look well. I would guess a MB782 would be somewhere in the 11.5mm diameter range where the butt wrap would go. But yes I would be interested having them for an option. We may be surprised someone may have a decal or a weaving pattern. What colors did you use? What thread company? You can email me at gbnro

New York Yankee colors/pattern Hey guys I am reaching out to you New York Yankee fans. I am building a MB782 casting rod for a buddy. He is an absolute diehard Yankees fan. I want to use the correct colors, so if anyone has a suggestion please send it my way. I want to be uniform correct and I think they only have the two colors (White and Blue), if in fact there is a third less visible c

Hey I noticed a Mud Hole commercial on the sportsman's network last night and I simply wanted to say Great Job!! The commercial was very well put together and not only promoted Mud Hole but also rod building in general.

Dental floss treaders for me. They are bright blue so easy to see and they last for a long time.

This is so funny I noticed it on a bassmaster show and comment to my wife. We even did a frame by frame on the dvr to ensure what we saw. I questioned it also an reverted to thinking it was a two piece rod and they turned the guide upside down to wrap the guide and the ferrule with one wrap. Either that or they came up with a weird idea to make a sale.

Dave at Angler's Workshop can pick you a good pack. You will just need to know what size you want. It may be good to tell Dave what color you are want to pop as some of the feathers have a brighter yellow and some a little more orange.

Well if I understand what you are asking for. I took a cork fighting butt with a flat piece of EVA attached and chucked it up in my lathe by putting it on the end of a mandrel and turned the cork down to just fit inside a Tennessee handle tube. Then I turned down the EVA portion to the same diameter of the Tennessee tube. I can't see why this would not work for your Carbon Fiber issue. Maybe
