just wondering if anyone knows of a supplier (that will ship to Australia) that might have a MHX-SW76h-2 Blank?
tip broke on a customers rod and was trying to avoid replacing the whole blank but it seems mudhole discontinued them...
thanks in advance,

have a look at xzoga takadums, 7seas black rock V2 and matagi also carry a few. these are proper slow pitch blanks, not US models built for a different style so they are what your looking for.

Yes PNG is Papua New Guinea and the fish are Papuan Black Bass, from the same family as the US cuberra snapper, grow to about 50lb (im sure there are larger ones around!) and hit like no other fish. live in the jungle so they prefer structure which makes landing one difficult and requires some heavy duty tackle
rod will be used for mainly casting large baits/hardbodies

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with St Croix, Phenix or MHX extra heavy powered (40-50lb) travel blanks. I have a friend who will be fishing PNG for Black Bass and is after something with a lot of grunt down low with a fast tip.
thanks in advance for your comments

I have a K-SUN 360 printer and find it great to use however Ive noticed I have cloudy spots on the clear tape (both gold and silver on clear), Just wondering if this may be a tape issue as I can see the spots before applying the decal and even after its been added, burnished and epoxied,
Anyone else experience this??

im a little different but ive found clingwrap perfect for the job. wrap around the threaded rod tightly, maybe a couple of layers then glue the cork. comes off easy as and clean!
I do use epoxy, only a little however and then once the washers tightened down clean off any glue squirts so you don't have to sand them down first. I don't use any water soluable glue what so ever on any part of the

sorry, should have been more specific
the tuna in my area are all fished on 9' 10#s
long cast into bait balls so you may have a lot of line on the deck when you hook up and then loose a lot of line at great speed, was wondering if there's an advantage having a size 20 over a 16 to clear the odd line tangle

how about clearing tangled lines in saltwater situations? like when a tuna hits the gas and a bunch of line needs sorting, is it better to have a smaller 16 or the larger 20?

Hello Jim,
Thanks for your reply, I was hoping you would comment and as I suspected your response reflects what I had assumed. I was trying to track down the video with the guy explaining why they chose the MN guides over the KW but as it was in Japanese and a little while ago I’ve lost it, I can confirm he was not from Fuji and was a rep/ tester for one of the big name popping companies (Fish

I was hoping to have an open discussion about heavy tackle spinning guides, mainly Fuji ‘KW’ vs ‘MN’ for GT/Tuna Popping. There seems to be a train of thought among Japanese rod companies (Fisherman, Carpenter) that the MN guides are the way to go, apparently they are better but no one seems to know why. I have heard a head Japanese designer thinks the ‘K’ guides are noisy but that’s the closest

Does anyone have some info on the casting weights for the Bushido Popping blanks, 7' and 8' models?? They have weights listed but i dont trust them really, 14oz for the 80lb models seems like its jig weight and not what the rod can actually 'cast'
For example the blackhole nano PE8 blank is rated for lures up to 180g (6oz) and as this is what im assuming to be the closest match (have not handle

quite a few sites are advertising the fact Blackhole korea were making busido blanks, they even appear to look the same. I searched a little more and a Blackhole rep confirmed this but has stated they no longer make bushido blanks so not entirely sure whats going on now.
its seems they are not the same, bushido are by all reports softer in action so I geuss I found my answer.

Just wondering if anyone can comment on the action of the two brands listed, Blackhole seem to make Bushido blanks and I was wondering if they are similar in action. The Blackhole Cape Cod Special - Nano blanks have a slower action more suited to stickbaits compared to the 'Graphite' brothers, im interested in knowing if Bushido are again a little slower/softer like the nano

don't go for a 30 stripper, its too small.
start with 40 and make it a high frame and don't go any smaller than 16's. 12's are too small for these rods and knots will catch.
ive worked with a few really talented GT fisherman to refine my rods and a large stripper and large running guide/tip is a must.

also Phenix changed the K2's they are now sanded so the cross weaver texture is less prominent. I believe someone had some data on how the power changed also, it was reduced from memory.
Dane,
Your actually the first person ive heard of having dealings with Phenix AU, didnt think anyone could get stuff from them, well apart from used demo rods anyway...

P842 has more low down power and for plastics it would be my choice (I have one for personal use in High Mod) however seeing as you will be targeting trout the softer more forgiving nature of the S842 may be better should you use lures w/ trebles more than plastics. both will do what your intending however, the spinning is softer than the popping.

Mo,
If you want a good casting braid, as that will give you the most distance with a spin setup, go japanese and be prepared to pay for it. nothing comes close in terms of thickness, durability and general performance. in my experience the better lines wont bleed, are not 'stiff' and wont fuzz up of a few trips and are definately wortht the extra $$
some of my favourites are:

Getting into micro jigging (slow pitch jigging) and im wanting to build a personal rod but im having trouble finding the right blank. It needs to be light in power, ideally PE1-3 or 10-30lb and rated for jigs in the 35g-80g range with a mod or parabolic action, 6’ – 6’6” would be an ideal length, can do 5’6” however. 1 piece is preferred also.
We have a few off the shelf rods available that are

25. VSS17 Strength?
Ive got a couple fo light saltwater builds that im thinking of using the Fuji VSS17 reel seat for but just want confirmation if they will hold up.
one is a 6' light jigging rod for slow pitch jiggin or micro jigging that will run a shimano 4000, rated to 10-30lb for a range of demersal species.
the second is a 7'6" inshore rod rated for 10-30lb and will be used for deep water plastics and

Thanks for the input guys,
I think i may do away with the need to cast those really light baits. The reels i have are able to cast light lures (tuned daiwa t3's) , i was getting ok distance from a custom loomis MB843 with 1/8 but really want something that handled it easy. if i have less empahsiss on 1/8 and bump the minimum up to 1/4 its a bit more realistic. That and push the larger baits (100
