also while im still asking questions about diamondite, if i had a foam core grip made up and wanted to put some art work on it, could i use diamondite as a final layer on that or isnt it suitable. if i had made the grip myself i would use the same epoxy but i didnt. should i use something else or would that epoxy be good enough? thanks again

i have been thinking about this for a little while now but am yet to test it but here in australia alot of bream fishos have been chasing whitting (a small bone fish look-a-like, max size 45cm) on super shallow flats with small poppers, about 20mm-50mm long. the tackle mostly consists of roughly 7 foot 1-3kg light or ultra light spinning outfits, and 2-6lb braid or flurocarbon. we try to use the

you can order direct online, i was quoted approx $12 - $20 depending on size of the package for shipping, a little bit hard to understand japanese product sheets but you figure out what is what after a look. they respond to emails and are pretty helpful and quick

yes you can put orders straight to him, dont forget tom is in australia also. i agree that his reel seats, the unpainted ones are hexy compared to other places but here in oz the prices are much higher because very little is actually made here and so import costs add to the cost of the item, thats why whenever i can i buy from overseas (im on an apprentice wage so i "try" and make my mo

hey tom just another option if your not sure about winding checks, matagi has a range or handle kits that are very nice, which will take all the guess work out if your unsure. stuff from split grips uplocking ips (painted also) a great range of winding checks carbon and kevlar tubes. just do a search for matagi and navigate your way to the english page

thanks for the links ray, but being a personal novice rod builder i'd just like to try these first before i outlay for expernsive epoxy and carbon, that and id probably stuff first go so id much rather put money into someone elses pocket and get a good grip made up fully first of if possible!

not sure what to put on my 10 weight saltwater fly rod in regards to grips. the blue eva would look better on the TFO TiCrX blank but is it any better? would like to know your thoughts on the subject as i have seen heavier saltwater fly rods with eva but dont know the pros and cons of it yet, cheers!

hello, just wondering if anyone on here has used REC Components RSFX fly guides as small spining guides before? these arent the snake guides but the closed small single feet ones shaped like their tips. im building an ultra light rod and want to keep weight down but also want a guide smaller than the 6 offered in the RSPG single foot spinning guide. the RSFX fly guide is also the saltwater ve

the choking of the line has to be disspensed over all the guides, so a small amount of friction is applied to them instead of alot of friction at the striper or more concentrated near the tip and smaller guides if that makes sense.

thanks for the reassurance buddy, ill get those guides then! loving the aussie $ growth atm to! it makes it easier for poorly paid peoples credit card. now anyone got a good guide spacing chart

thanks for your reply jim but im also thinking of putting the striper as the sping model TATSG ones then downsizeing to the TLSG. paul, everyone has their opinion and i was of the same opinion but as i havent built any fly rods before i took some advice from others thru this site saying ti improves casting, and when you cast like i do i need all the help i can get! im still open to suggestions

just wondering what everyones opinion is about useing the fuji concept guide that is titanium with a sic ring and only a single leg and foot for guides on a 10 weight saltwater outfit. i know some people use the single foot with V frame double legs but not sure if the concept guides would flex to much under some serious strain and possibly break, just need someone to put my mind at ease!

thanks for the advice guys, but i have another question, do you think single footed titanium sics would be able to endure the strain of fishing or should i stick with double feet. just thinking it may look a little better and reduce weight slightly. in particular i was thinking of the fuji TATSG single foot sic guides, would match the fly guides great but i dont wanna compromise to much strength

fly rods are made in multiple pieces because its practical. alot of people would not buy your 9" $600 rod if it cant be stored somewhere safely because truth be told it cant be treated like a spin/casting rod. they are so much more delicate. i also believe that it could be tradition. bamboo are multi piece and i think fly fishing is largely a traditional sport, they have the same sort of ree
