Making my "dream rod" here and going to try to use the Torzite guides. There doesn't seem to be a traditional stripper guide. Has anyone use the Torzite guides from Fuji on a heavy fly rod and if so which layout did you go with? Think I can go all single foots use locking wraps. The newer torzite frames seem very stiff and strong. Re: torzite optioin for 10 wt salt rod?

Since Fuji discontinued my beloved TSVSG I have had to go to the TZWTG. They are fine for a fly rod. I use the #16 then #12 Re: torzite optioin for 10 wt salt rod?

Billy, the double foot KW, single foot KL, single foot high frame KL-H and double foot high frame RV are available in sizes 16 and 12 with TORZITE® Rings. Re: torzite optioin for 10 wt salt rod?

But if Billy is building his "dream" fly rod it is going to have Ti frames. Which for a heavy duty fly rod - means TZWTG. The LN series is too light weight.

Distance casters have begun using #20 and even #25 stripping guides. No reason to do so for fresh water fishing where a 40' cast is a boomer, but distance is an asset in open water and in the wind. Re: torzite optioin for 10 wt salt rod?

I can see no reason to go larger than a #16 stripper for any fly rod unless it hugs the blank and you need height to get line off the blank.
I used to use #20 strippers on #10 rods because "they" said one had to - and the manufacturers did. But there are fly rod casting videos showing smaller guides creating less waves in the flow of the fly line. I now use #16's. Herb Re: torzite optioin for 10 wt salt rod?

how about clearing tangled lines in saltwater situations? like when a tuna hits the gas and a bunch of line needs sorting, is it better to have a smaller 16 or the larger 20? Re: torzite optioin for 10 wt salt rod?

Smaller #16 so the snarl hits there instead of a runner.
But tuna bad example. There is not much line out with tuna because you can't cast very far with a #16 8'0" fly rod. Tarpon would be a better example - but same answer. Herb Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/10/2015 07:34AM by Herb Ladenheim. Re: torzite optioin for 10 wt salt rod?

sorry, should have been more specific
the tuna in my area are all fished on 9' 10#s long cast into bait balls so you may have a lot of line on the deck when you hook up and then loose a lot of line at great speed, was wondering if there's an advantage having a size 20 over a 16 to clear the odd line tangle Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
