yeh will be taping before i try, however i need to buy a set of a certain size, this is where your info helps, so far its a set of 6's and 8's i use a slim beauty knot, smallest and strongest knot i know of, plus i have alot of confidence in it so proably will not change. hollow braid is not my thing, i have my preferences and dont think ill change anytime soon but thank you for your input

how small would you go to pass 60-80lb leaders knots without losing distance from hang-ups?? it will be on a casting stick (loomis mag bass), not spinning i dont build many castings rods, more spinning, so not to sure, was thinking 6-7 but thats on the being safe (and to be honest id rather be safe than having the annoyance of leader knots not passing smoothly, which sh..s me to tears)

i use high quality braid that is IGFA rated so running the braid on the rod is not a problem and i dont believe the rod will break (ill get bricked before that haha) and no ted this is not intended for the stick work in the dams, more lighter barra stuff with creek jacks, bass, threadies and jew in mind. with these fish the battle can be won or lost in the first couple of seconds and using a

in oz and the target fish like structure and can get big so helps with rub offs and bite throughs and getting bricked, although the 60lb may only be a shock leader of sorts. i run 15lb braid on the reel ive got to match this with and will mostly only use a 20lb fluro leader, but when chasing some of the 'harder' fish the shock leader needs to be strong

what sort of action do you want tho?? im yet to try building an UL spin rod with a fly blank but i would have thought it would have been alot slower than a purpose built spinning rod. i have a loomis imx S-781 thats rated to 2-6lb and has a minimum 1/32 casting weight. that said it will easily cast weightless 3inch plastics. i plan on extending mine to about 7 foot to help with its light weigh

the other thing to consider is wear on the knot itself. if its casuing some friction and getting hung up a bit by that knot the quality of the knot will degrade. i dare say going below 6 for a 10lb leader knot wont be as good, still doesnt hurt to try before you wrap. ive also wondered about the angled guides to as you see some off the shelf rods with them on now days

I really like gusa, have not tried many gloomis blanks but everyone knows their reputation, so not really leaning to one brand as such just after a premium quality blanks. althought i would like it to be able to match red! not a huge fan of colours clashing! i will be looking for it to throw stuff to about 25-30g (sorry all our lure weights are in grams down here) and other various hb's but prob

tom, i have a GUSA 7 foot 6-17lb blank that i got from the muddy hole for around $70, i would reccomend this as your best blank, nice tip for working the plastics but it can also pull a stump. i wouldnt go higher than a 4000 reel and you will have the advantage of two spools with the stradic. im useing a titanium sic v frame single foot stripper then the new concept single legs like you have used
