Thx for the replies. I guess as far as a spinning rod goes, it's mostly what feels right for you. I measured from the stem to the meat of my forearm is about 11.5". Wasn't sure if there was a rule of thumb that applies.

Gents, I have a question regarding cork handle lengths on 7' bass rods, casting and spinning. I have built quite a few Switch rods and I generally use an upper cork handle that matched the length of the blank 10.5-11" handle on a 11' blank, with an approx 4.5" on the lower. I'm building a couple of bass rods, one casting and one spinning with cork handles and was wondering what the best

Maybe somebody can point me to a thread about adding tint to the epoxy. I've been searching through the database, but I'm coming up with zip. I must not be putting the right words in the search. I know it has been brought up several times in this forum. Appreciate any help.
Thanks, Dave

I was wondering if anyone has used Threadmaster over the top of Swifty's Diamondite.I used to use Threadmaster exclusively until my wife complained so much about the smell. Now that my shop is finished, I was planning on going back to using Threadmaster. I have no complaints about Diamondite, I just prefer Threadmaster. I have a spey rod that had the wraps done in Diamondite for the first coat an

I second the motion on the Meiser blanks. I just finished a 5/6 Clearwater 11'7". His blanks are absolutely beautiful. Bob is a great guy to work with. He answered every question I had. You won't be sorry.

Hi,
I have a couple of Forecast F763-2 flyrod blanks that I'm trying to put together for my wife and I. I went to Batson's website and it appears they are redesigning it. Looks pretty cool so far...BUT I need guide size and spacing info and that part of the website isn't up yet. If anybody can chime in and give me that info, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Dave

I second Vance's response. Ron has been a great help to me supplying advice, delivering product, and his customer service skills are second to none. I want to thank his wife also for the great service.

Karry, I know my brother is going to want the 8'6" one when I'm finished. I'm going to buy another 8'6" blank and I'll put one together by your specs.
That'll give me an 8'6" and a 9' 8-12lb to use on the Smith R. next year. I want to give those G.Loomis guys I fish with, a run for their money.

That's what I bought for the tip section. I kept them to six, seven, eight, and the last is either a ten or twelve.

Bill,
I bought the Batson LTCUDUG guides. What others do you recommend?

Thanks Tom. I'm a conventional type of guy. I've read a lot about the spiral wraps, but I'm going to leave it for you adventurous types. ;<) They are absolutely beautiful blanks. I bought mine from Schneiders Rod Shop. Great prices on Batson/Forecast products.

I just bought a couple of Batson's XST blanks for steelhead fishing. This is my first attempt at a casting rod, but I have a bunch of fly rods under my belt. I always build on the straight and not worry about the spine. The question I have is, do I place the guides on the inside curve or the outside curve of the blank. Appreciate any advice from you guys.
Thanks, Dave

Jerry,
I have built several fly rods from their blanks. Everything from 8' 3wt to their 9'6wt, 9'7wt, 9'8wt, and 9'9wt.
They are a flat matte finish and they are very straight. They fish well and I would recommend them. The
people behind the scenes are great.

I want to try the Diamondite CP for my feather inlays. Are you able to thin the Diamondite CP using alcohol or should it be used straight from the bottle. I tried emailing Swifty, but they must be busy. I really like using their finish, quick cure and no odor.

20. Re: foam sheets
Judd,
Go to RCGroups and search there for the best stuff to use. There's a ton of info there. All types of foam are being used in the model industry today.

I finished a tip section on my flyrod last night and found a flaw on one of the guides this morning. It's not a bubble and there's no "fuzzies" attached. I didn't apply too much I don't think. The rest of the finish is nice and level except this one spot. I ran my dryer all night. Can you lightly sand the flaw and reapply the finish without screwing up the whole finish on that foot? I'
