Flaw on the finish

I finished a tip section on my flyrod last night and found a flaw on one of the guides this morning. It's not a bubble and there's no "fuzzies" attached. I didn't apply too much I don't think. The rest of the finish is nice and level except this one spot. I ran my dryer all night. Can you lightly sand the flaw and reapply the finish without screwing up the whole finish on that foot? I'm using Flex Coat High Build if that makes any difference.
Thanks Re: Flaw on the finish

I'm no pro, but I have had this experience. Just carefully shave the "flaw" off without going into the wrap and put on another thin coat. You should have no problems. SAFETY TIP Don't wipe the existing finish off with any kind of solvent or cleaner before the new coat....just a coffee filter. I tried that on my first rod and learned about fish eyes. Also, I dont think you need to or should sand the wrap between coats unless it has cured for a couple days. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/25/2007 11:28PM by Bill Lane. Re: Flaw on the finish

Dave... I'm "piling on" the excellent advice the other gentlemen gave you... if it's just a small isolated area, carefully shave off the flaw with a double edge razor blade. Be very careful not to cut the thread (use the razor blade almost parallel to the finish.) You will create a small divit, but that's okay. If it's a larger "drip" or an out-of-shape area, mask off the guide and the adjacent areas of the rod. Use an emery board to lightly sand the flaw out, then wipe it down with 70% alcohol to remove the dust. Re-coat the wrap and you're good-to-go. Flex-coat, Rod-Smith, and Threadmaster finishes are very forgiving. You can sand the whole wrap down as long as you don't abrade the thread... Re-coat it and it will look like new. I would keep any solvent(alcohol) away from the prepared surface,it welcomes fish eyes. Freddwhy (Rapt-Ryte) Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
