A friend's wife will be surprised with this light surf rod tomorrow night. My sister-in-law is "artsy" and helped me pick the colors to match Rexanne's personality. Pink is size A and the green overwrap is size D. Jay Lancaster- if you are on Atlantic Beach, you may see this rod!

3. Broken Rod
This break occurred just above the guide. Rod was said to have been in the boat's rod holder while in car wash. Owner thinks rod got hung on something as he drove boat out of car wash.

Fuji SICs on a Rainshadow SWS70L- this is going to be one heck of a striper rod. Used size D thread for the overwraps in case I run into bullies.

Here's an idea for a simple butt wrap using a fish decal and thread inlays. I hope to tackle weaving, etc. after the seminars in Charlotte.

Guide wrap for Jake's NCSU rod. Gudebrod 326 Scarlet NCP and 002 White NCP. The rod was built to be Jake-proof: fiberglass Batson blank, double foot Fuji guides.

Thanks Todd- that looks like just the blank.
Russ- my thoughts exactly: barnacle encrusted, rough concrete pilings.........
And thanks very much for everyone's replies and e-mails and recommendations.
My SW967 blank has survived this close encounter unmolested and will one day assume it's new identity as a rod in it's full length !!

Thanks guys- I actually have a Rainshadow SW967 on hand that I'm considering chopping to 6'-6". That would result in a blank with a fast tip and plenty of backbone but from what you guys are saying, perhaps I don't need such a beefy blank? This rod will be used around Oregon Inlet, NC and other eastern NC saltwater areas. It is entirely possible that it will haul in a Florida-size sheepsh

A friend has asked me to build him a 6'-0" to 6'-6" sheepshead rod. He will apparently be fishing in tight areas around pilings and doesn't want to go longer than 6'-0" if possible. The extent of my knowledge on sheepshead rods is that they need a sensitive tip and a good amount of power for potentially horsing a fish from around pilings. Any specific blank recommendations would

I'm with Mike Barkley on this and when I hear my wife tell someone "Yeah, he's in there working on a fishing pole.", I immediately respond: "A pole is an object to which telephone lines are attached." You'd think she'd learn.

Thanks to all. This has actually been an interesting refurbish job. Looks like Fenwick used a lot of laquer and the original threadwork wasn't what I'd call spectacular. Once I get the epoxy on, I'll try to post pics.

Thanks Ken! The roller tip guide just came in the mail and the tube is just slightly larger then the blank- just enough to allow for a bit of wiggle. Anything wrong with wrapping the tip with a layer ot two of D-size thread to take up the slack before applying epoxy ??

The first picture said "red cherry" to me. Mahogany stock and mahogany veneer is usually turned from much larger diameter trees than illustrated in the last picture. My dad was in the hardwood veneer business for all of his career which means little to this conversation but growing up, I did get to see a good bit of veneer !

Greetings all- I'm refurbishing an old Fenwick, IGFA 50 lb class rod for a friend. This is the first offshore rod I've done and I want to make sure it's "bulletproof". On the guides, I'm doing underwraps, overwraps (possibly a second, narrow overwrap), etc. and plan to do 2-3 applications of Prokote.
In replacing roller tip guides (this one is an Aftco 20/64), do you guys have a p

Will do next week- was hoping to get a quick "weekend answer" - three rods left to finish before Christmas and I'm getting in a bind for time.

23. Re: 2009 Expo
Tom- Dang-it! The one year that I couldn't attend and now it may be over? Would the cost/risk parameters be different if you held it maybe every 2 or 3 years instead of annually? I realize that a risk is a risk but if the Expo were held every 3 years, I think you could certainly count on a lot of pent-up desire that would attract lots of attendees.

Guess what? I just tried to access Mudhole and everything is fine. Home page comes up just like it's supposed to. To say that I'm red-faced right now would be an understatement. I should have checked one more time before posting but this is the first opportunity I've had to sit down and do stuff other than work so I assumed the problem still existed.
However, since I haven't changed any of

Due to work and other very inconvenient issues, I had to put away my rod building stuff several months ago but it now looks like I'll be getting back in the groove soon. Last week, I discovered that I can no longer access Mudhole's web site. Their home page won't even come up on my screen. I called Mudhole and talked at length to Mike, their web guru and he very patiently walked me through eve

I want to thank the sponsors & vendors & seminar instructors who made The Show a huge success. By about 2 pm today, they were all looking a bit shell shocked but after dealing with all of 'us' for 2 straight days, that's understandable. Undoubtedly, it is a tremendous undertaking to come to a show like this. Of course, I'm considerably lighter in the wallet because of their effort!

This will be my 3rd. I booked my room nearly the day they became available. If there are any "doubters" out there, rest assured that the knowledge you'll gain and the friends you'll make will more than pay for the trip.
I encourage everyone to wear name tags and write your name and home state in BIG letters so everyone won't have to squint.
I also encourage everyone to meet on F

Hi Mike- Decal Connection can make about anything you want but you've got to have a permission letter from the copyright office of the particular college/university. I needed a NC State University Wolfpack decal a couple of years ago for a rod I was building as a gift. The nice lady at NCSU's copyright office sent me a permission e-mail, I sent it to Decal Connection along with a jpeg of what

Mark- Finally, a topic on which I can speak with authority. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. The cleanup after Hurricane Isabel got me. I've had two back surgeries since and inumerable epidural cortisone shots. Have been going to a pain clinic for a year now and the anesthesiologist recently put needles in just the right places and applied pulsed, low frequency radio waves. Worked
