Greetings from a long time reader, but seldom poster.
A friend want a Spin rod, I am a fly rod guy but build can build a spin rod.
I am thinking something in the 6-12lb line.
He wants a 2 piece rod, I have noticed most of the spin rod blanks are 1 piece but he wants 2 piece. I have found a blank that is 2 piece but it is 8 feet long. Do you think this is to long as spin rods go, is it stil

Thank you all for your insight, i will try a repair and if it @#$%& I will re do.
I will get some experience messing with it, and if not re do. It is a rod for myself that I am making for a trip so it will not be used all that much, but still like to show good work.

I did a foam grip EVA ? which has slices of diferent colors in it. When I turned it on the lathe it has a few voids/gaps in the glue up, I used contact cement and did not get it %100 tight in a few spots. The base color of the grip is grey. Any ideas of how to fill in the cracks. What sort of glue and foam dust will match the same color of the grip. If it was cork I would know what to do, but hav

The rod is rated as 6-12 lb line.
I can not tell the reel size, it is a reel a friend gave me to build the rod for him, seems a standard freshwater spin reel, With the reel on the rod, it is 4" from the rod to the center of the spool.
I was using the article and that is how I came up with the numbers, just not sure I am doing it right.

I have a 6' blank, the center of the reel is 13.5" from the butt.
The choke guide comes out to 46.2" up from the reel.
When I place the rod on a table edge the first guide at 24" up from the reel. The guide is 50mm high to the top of the guide.
Does all this sound about right to you. Cheers Ron

16. light guides
I am of the impression that the ultima4 single foot wire guides are about the lightest (weight wise) guides, am I wrong on this, is their something lighter out their.

Thank you all for your input. Well I will have to tape on some extra guides and try it out for myself, just for the fun of it. I have been building rods with 9+- guides but never really tried more. It seems to go against the coventional thinking but only a hour or two investment in time is little to loose. This Mr. Fox seems to have gone the rounds on most of the forums and left without a trace,

Well it looks like maybe this is a dead end idea, I saw a you tube video from this Fox guy who said he had great casting rods with a lot of light guides and it got me thinking about trying it. I did not know minima guides were so cheap.
Thanks all for your input.
I could post a link to the video if that is allowed here

I would like to buy some Minima4 guides to build a fly rod, I was thinking of trying to put on a large # of guides and see it more guides will increase casting distance, something like putting on 15 guides on a 9' fly rod. Has anybody tried this with any success.
Anybody know of a of a place that has Minima4 guides for a "good" price.

My first grip that I put flocking int has wore off, I used the wrong fibers and did not seal the cork properly, double whammie!
So now I have got the hang of it I want to re do the original. So if I sand off the little bit of remaining fuzz can I apply the glue on top of the previous glue?

I have a chance to build a 8ft 5 wt Bamboo blank, I want to use single foot wire guides, I have never used these what size would be right.
I was going to use a traditional stripper size 10 or 12, do these rods use 2 strippers or one?
Thanks for the help. Cheers Ron.

I am building a 9wt catfish/pike rod. I am thinking if useing:
12,10 strippers and then 7's on up, ceramics. Would anybody think 7's are to small and think 8's would be better. A nine wt sink tip line would be used most of the time. Cheers Ron.

26. cork filler
I want to make a fly grip with wood trim on both ends. I have used a preformed grip and cut the ends off and turn the wood trim to the shape of the ends I cut off to match them up to the cork part. my problem is when I match things up it needs a little sanding to make a smooth join.
When I sand the wood the cork gets sanded a little and if there is some filler in the cork it comes out. This mak

Thanks for the help. The "glue" is good and stuck on, it was the fuzz that came off.

28. re flocking?
The first grip I flocked, a few years ago, has all but lost its fuzz, it is a bald flocking grip. I have learned that I did not use the right fuzz or seal the grip properly a double whammie. Despite this id did take a few years to fish the fuzz ofof it.
I have since done ok and all of the other grips I have done have been fine.
My question is can I re flock this bald one over the old glue?

My wife and I were camping on the beach in Baja mexico and I was fly fishing with a guy from the USA. This guy said you should build yourself a fly rod its easy. My wife said, yes why don't you make one ( strange for her since she would say the last thing you need is another hobby), enough fly tying.
So when we got home I looked into ordering parts and built one for me and one for my Dad, Still
