John, you can either buy a book that shows you how to do the pattern, or, the way I learned was on mudhole.com. They have a good basic rod building 101 area that is detailed and has good pictures.

4 axis, +1 on one side split diamond. Not as complex as it looks. Hardest thing is keeping track of where you are with the different start points.
