I would just warranty it. I broke my PB 7'6 MH. And they had me cut the section that broke and send it in. And I paid the replacement fee and they shipped out the new one.

I see what your saying but alot of what I found was also the opinion of my friend who has fished the blank the last two years or so. The butt section is only 9" which is a little short for the distance casting required. And the guides are COF and could be improved upon. The action of the blank was very different then most of she shimano, st. Croix, Loomis, daiwa, Penn rods, etc.. I've fished

I was fishing off a jetty today throwing pompano jigs on a Bushido 7'2 6-12 and a friend of mine was throwing jigs on a Star SG612ISM and it's a very cheap rod but jigs a Doc's goof jig perfectly. The biggest thing I noticed is it stays in contact with the jig better then my rods and we were throwing the same weight jig, same braid, and same leader. The guides are lower quality and COF and the bu

I'm interested in the NEO XH blank for throwing large swimbaits and flairhawk/bucktails in the 2oz range. Haven't been able to find out much about it.

Picking an X-Ray blank for throwing pompano jigs in the 1/4-3/8 range. I work the jigs back slowly but with very sharp pops off the sand bottom. Looking in the 7'-7'2 range going to match with a 3k Luvias or Vanford 10lb braid. I've added a few NFC blanks to my cart but can't figure out which one to use for this application.

I have the older flexcoat power wrapper but will be selling it soon ad it's hard to get the blank completely straight without a little bit of wobble. I've also had a pacbay for a while which was a nice machine other then the plastic chuck. Years ago I got the mudhole hand wrapper and built a rod on it then put it away and didn't start building rods again for years. And went to the wrappers I just

I turned some EVA for a foregrip. It's 8" long and 1/2 ID I turned it down to 1" OD and then tapered the end down a bit more. I really like the shape of it and it fits the blank and reel seat well. But the wall is only about 3.5mm thick right at the tip of the foregrip and the smallest point of the taper. Will this be ok or will it be too weak being rather thin. If needed I will either

Thank you guys as always. Going to go give it a try! If I'm not pleased with the pattern I have some black EVA to turn for my grips. I like how your grips came out Joe. That's the look I'm hoping for.

Thank you Tom. Have you seen the EVA I have in person? it is just layered gray and black. Basically pinstripe. But the picture online is more of faux wood grain. It seems to me as you you break through the layers of color you create that pattern. I understand with 99% of colored and patterned EVA it is what it is and as you shape it you only change the shape. But with this style my understanding

I bought a couple sticks of this EVA and I'm going to turn it tomorow. I notice it's a very bland pattern from the factory and has to be turned with some kind of irregularities to produce a pattern. I plan on making the grip into a concave shape for a 14" rear grip. Any tips you all have on how to get a nice pattern would be appreciated. Thank you all in advance.

Thank you all for your advice. I believe I'll go ahead and ream the grip as carefully as possible to keep it centered using the advice Norman provided. And yes I want a slick reel seat no trigger. I measured the pocket ID of the size 20 reel seat and it's just under 20mm I guess I could of sanded down the tennon and made it fit. But I'll try and fit it without the tennon. If it doesn't fit flush

Spencer The tenon OD was 22.5mm so I don't know how that would fir in a 20mm reel seat.

I'm currently building an American tackle BU-BA 30-50 as a casting rod for throwing snook jigs and other big lures. I've decided on a Forecast 14" carbon rear grip and 6" carbon foregrip. The issue I ran into is the tennon on the rear grip is 22.5mm OD so I would have had to use a size 24 reel seat which would be way to big for my application and reel choice which is an Accurate Tern 2

I recently built a 6' 40-60 spinner on an American tackle blank for a friend of mine and used an American Tackle 3k carbon size 18 reel seat and fit a 6000 penn perfectly. But I wouldn't of expected a Fuji 18 to fit it. We ran into an issue with the Van Staal VR50 not fitting properly in a Fuji Deluxe size 18 so now I fit every reel to its reel seat before I start building the rod from now on.

Lots of really great ideas and Insight. Going to get together with my friend and he'll help sketch some plans up this weekend and see what materials I can source locally. Spencer I agree with what you were saying about the depth of the counter to be able to access what's on the wall or behind it. I hadn't really thought about that being an issue prior to now. Starboard or a similar product wou

A good friend of mine is willing to help me build a dedicated workbench for rod building. And I looked at some pre made countertops I could cut to size that were already laminated but didn't care for them. We are thinking about using a natural wood and using a stain or finish that will be easy to clean. I'm hoping to hear what you all have used to make your personal benches as I'm sure you all ha

Check out the Nanophene Extreme Bushido either in a 30-50lb or the 50-80lb they're all 7'2. I'm building one this year for my Accurate 500 2 speed for winter Grouper fishing out of Hudson FL in about 75' of water. But it will do double duty for east coast Bull Reds and Red Snapper off shore. They're light in weight but have a crazy amount of power. Seem to me they would be sensitive enough for li

Thank you all for your feedback! Sounds like a straightforward upgrade. Planning on stopping by Get Bit and picking up the Alps chuck this Monday or Tuesday. And I should have my new roller stands and thread carriage early this coming week. And thank you Mark for the tip about using a straight piece of metal rod to check the alignment between old and new. And I don't plan on using it for any t

Personally I wear Costa sunglasses. The ones with the glass lenses tend to hold up better with scratching. I don't leave them in a case. They just float around in the back seat of my truck. I've got blue lenses for offshore and green lenses for inshore. Only downside is the rubber nose pieces fall apart after a few years. And I've had guys wearing cheap sunglasses right next to me and not throw a

I currently have a Pacific Bay power wrapper with the plastic chuck and I would like to upgrade it to the Alps chuck. Any tips on installing it and making sure it's as straight as possible. I haven't picked up the chuck yet so if it's way easier then I'm expecting it to be sorry in advance. I've also ordered roller stands and a 4 thread carriage from AL Engling. Looking to build a much better wr

Thank you all for the help. I will check some local hobby stores. And if I strike out I'll order some of the fingernail stickers. When he requested a Cowboys themed rod I didn't even consider the licensing issue with finding decals.

Ok how would I go about getting permission? If it ends up being too much of a hassle I can always just go with the Cowboy colors and have a decal made of his name for the rod.

I'm helping a friend build a rod for a charity raffle in which he donated a fishing gift basket and a custom rod of the winners choice. The winner wanted a Dallas Cowboys themed bass rod. I've selected all the components and will start building it this weekend. However I need a Dallas Cowboys logo decal. And Mudhole does not have any and American Tackle as well. I'm sure this has to do with licen

Just wanted to say thank you to Mo at American tackle!! I always feel welcomed as soon as I walk into the showroom and he's been a huge help in picking out my components and placing my order. Now they're able to sell directly to individuals without placing wholesale orders. I urge anyone who lives close enough to go visit the showroom and meet the staff and check out their awesome line up of rod

I'm also building a similar rod soon. So I appreciate all the knowledge. I couldn't decide wether to go with a traditional spiral wrap or a SS. But seeing as it is my first attempt at spiral wrapping I believe the SS will be the easiest to pull off.

I would think a Point Blank build with the smallest Fuji KL-H guides in Titanium SiC or Torzite and carbon fiber grips would be the lightest. Can't imagine you'd find anything lighter. Check anglers resource for the guide selection and spacing.

No problem man. I never looked into writing on blanks myself as my penmanship is horrendous! So I've got to stick to labels/decals and thread work.
