What reel seats properly fit that carbon fiber grip? Looks like it might work with my current snook rod build.

Thank you I'll look into that Gimbal and those pacbay reel seats. The snook fishery up here is mainly bridges in 20' of water or so on hard outgoing tides around the New/Full moon throwing 2oz flairhawks or bucktails close to the fenders then sweeping them back through the channel. Same technique hooks us up on alot of bull reds and tarpon as well. I've fished sebastian and your right about thos

You guys have given me a ton of information and I greatly appreciate it. I feel confident in pulling off a spiral wrap now. I'll bring everything with me to mudhole and eyeball the guide sizes required. I'll definitely tape the guides In a number of configurations and see what the results are and go from there. And I certainly agree Russell that this rod could cover a wide variety of uses from

The 300 has nowhere near the torque that the 400 does which is a gamechanger when retrieving heavy jigs in current. I'm also not at

I've always wanted to build a spiral/acid wrapped rod so you guys are seriously tempting me to go that route! Does a spiral wrap affect casting distance? Most spiral wrapped rods I've seen are for bottom fishing or chunking for tuna. I'm hoping Jim Ising will chime in as I know Point Blank is his business. How would a casting reduction train generally go size wise? I figure the butt guide

Sorry Michael I should of also stated it is a casting rod I'm building. The Lexa 400 is a saltwater low profile reel and the Tern 400 is a star drag conventional reel. But I have built some spinners with the KR guide train running KL-H guides and love that set up. I'm new to building casting rods however.

Ok I'm not sure which guides those would be. I've never built a bass rod and have very little freshwater experience.

I'm waiting on the delivery of a PB 7'10 XXH. And I was wondering what guides I should use. I'll be using a Lexa 400 or an Accurate Tern 300 and 40lb braid throwing 2oz flairhawks and won't need to cast a knot through the guides. I fish heavy drag and horse fish away from the bridge/fenders. I was thinking of using the Fuji KW in SiC. But I'm not sure how many guides or what size. I'm set on goin

I second the Bushido series blanks. Been really happy with them and personally have a 7'6 MH Bushido and I've put it through the ringer and landed fish way above its weight class. The satin finish shows wear and tear rather easily but it fishes pompano jigs and gotcha plugs really well but will also free line a shrimp easily. Very versatile blanks.

Thank you Roger. The rod is brand new just got it under their warranty. I broke the original Avid I had that was made in 2010 and replaced it with the newest model Avid. I'll be able to fix the cracked area of epoxy without re-wrapping the guide thankfully. It is an unusual color pattern they've gone with for the new model but I must say I quite like it and will probably try out a few similar co

Thank you Spencer I think I'll use a thin spatula tool and some flex coat lite I used a sharp pick to remove the excess and it doesn't look like much needs to be filled. Most of the damage was to excess epoxy that leaked out of the "tunnel" so thankfully not as bad as it looked at first glance. I'm still curious if it's possible to match the color of the thread for any future repair

I broke a St. Croix avid that was 10+ years old and warrantied it with a new Avid inshore 8' MH and after UPS lost it and finally found it and got it delivered I noticed one of the guide wraps epoxy is cracked a little from the guide having been bent. I bent the guide back into place without doing any more damage. The epoxy Crack is on the ring side of the single foot guide between the guide and

That is a great idea Herb much quicker then taping guides on the blank. Do the O-rings stretch away from the blank some or do they fit pretty snug?

Thank you for all the great suggestions. Couldn't make it to MH the other day but I will be going soon. I'm expecting availability to be a big determining factor in which blank I choose. But you all have given me alot to choose from so I'm sure they'll have something in stock for me.

Thanks for the suggestion Joel. I've got 2 Point Blank 7'6 MH and I like them but I'm not sure a higher modulus blank will take the kind of pressure I put on my snook rods. I'll look into the rod geeks blanks but I'm really wanting to get my hands on a blank before purchasing it. I have no experience extending blanks so I'm hoping to pick up one that's 8'. And I don't need anything crazy light or

I understand why they're going up. But a 125 dollar blank going up over 165 is crazy. And they say it's a new resin system they are using that's increasing the price. However it looks, feels, and weighs exactly the same. Going to go to American Tackle and Mudhole tomorow and see what they've got.

Going to build another snook casting rod. Needs to be 8' and handle large snook. Line will be 30-40lb braid throwing mainly 2oz jigs. We've built one on an MHX nearshore 15-40 blank but they've gone up $45+ for some reason. So I'd like to consider some other options. I fish near bridges and heavy structure so it has to have the backbone to really put some heat on them. Reel will be a Lexa 400 or

My friend and I built an 8'11 bushido snook rod and he paired it with a Van Staal VR50 weighing around 9oz it was way to tip heavy and a heavier reel didn't balance it out enough to make up for the increase in weight. So we ended up adding 2oz of lead epoxied into the butt of the rod and it fishes completely different and balances much better which seems to help with fatigue throwing heavy snook

Thank you all for so many suggestions!! I'm looking into all of the blanks suggested and will see which one he leans toward. Kendall I agree with you 100% on that. So many people want to stick to what they know with much newer technology out there. But he has 25+ custom rods and knows what is out there. But he says that is his absolute favorite rod to target flounder with on buckatils. So he s

A friend of mine is a local guide and just broke his favorite flounder rod. I'm looking to find a blank that's close enough that I can replicate it. The old rod was a Daiwa DXB801MHRB. it's an 8' MH 1/4-1oz 12-17lb line rating. It has a slower action and he fishes 1/2 to 1 oz bucktails with it. Thank you for any assistance you all can give me.

Unfortunately my work space won't allow me to extend my wrapper motor any further. I tried a few of the suggestions but couldn't get it to balance correctly so that the blank would spin without wobble. So I will borrow a PacBay wrapper from a friend. Regarding the blanks the FST 13xd has excellent bite detection. But will still sling a 4oz and rig over 100 yards. The bullet and Runout are much

I went with an 11' Runout blank I got from Florida surf tackle. He sells complete rods but he sold me 1 blank. It seems to be identical to my 12' bullet FST just 1' shorter. Very parabolic but loads up exceptionally well and can cast 100 yards and still has great bite detection. What blanks have you had success with. I'm looking for some easier blanks to acquire. I have a friend that wants a

Thank you everyone for your great ideas! I'm going to collect some supplies and see which one suits my needs the best. Got my guide spacing figured out by doing some test casts the other day and figured out my color scheme for my guide wraps. Going to be a great set up for pompano and whiting!

I'm building an 11' pompano rod using Fuji LC guides. And I'm not sure how to fit the top section on my Flex coat wrapper. Even if I shim the end of the blank to fit in the rubber grommet I won't be able to move the thread carriage close enough to the first guide on that section of blank. Any ideas on how I can move the blank away from the motor and also fit it into the rubber chuck. This section

Hey Bruce check out anglers resource and read the page demystifying the KR concept. You'll learn all you need to know in no time. Jim ising sent me there and it cleared up all my questions and gave me the confidence to put that guide train to use. I'm blown away by how well it fishes.

Thank you for the responses. I'm going to go to MH soon and will look at what they have in stock I built a Bushido years ago and have been really happy with it and my friend and I just built a Bushido 8'11 Snook rod and we're impressed with the blank. If they don't have the Mag Bass in stock I'll try a rod geeks blank.

Thank you for the suggestions! I'll ask the guys at MH as well next time I'm there. I built a rod off a $15 clearance blank from MH that works great but I have no idea what brand or model it is. Hopefully I can find the blanks you mentioned.

I'm looking to build a new rod for jigging pompano. Jigs range from 1/4 to 1/2 oz. I'll mainly be throwing 3/8 and 1/2oz but I'd like to be able to cast a decent distance with a lighter jig when needed. When I work the jig I use sharp pops to snap the jig off the sand and that seems to be the most effective action. So I'd like something that loads up quickly and imparts action on the jig without

I left mine raw and they work great. I built a split grip on a point blank 7'6 MH. They aren't slippery at all when wet or slimey which is a plus for me.
