Anyone know who may have handle kits besides Batsons. I can find spey kits everywhere but not switch which are shorter on both fore grip and butt grip. Thanks for any help.

Want to build a switch rod for steelhead. I think I am the only guy left fishing single hand for winter run up here in the great northwest. I will go with the RX7 10'8 and was wondering about the handle build. I will probably use a handle kit. What is the difference between a spey handle and a switch handle. Seems to me it's the length of the fore grip. If so, can't I cut the length off the fore

Every body needs to relax here. No one likes to pay it and no one likes to charge for it. It is a fact of life though. Thousands of people are purchasing on line these days and have become used to shipping. It's cheaper than the gas to drive there! Thirty years ago most companies ate the cost of shipping because it was 50 cents for a one pound package. Now it's around 8.00. I sell parts for John

Yea I have a 8'4 4wt Winston WT. It casts just fine with the smaller guides. I build my flyrods based on the Winston look/feel. I don't get it out much anymore because I really like fishing my builds much more. Just something about it ya know?

I have built 4 rx7 flyrods now. Batson likes to oversize the guides on their charts. it's not wrong, just their preferance. Winston rods use guides two sizes smaller than Batsons on most of their flyrods. I also go at least one size down than Batson says and on a 8 1/2 five wt i would use one stripper. I just like the low profile look and feel. Casting is not a problem. Toms advise on having the

I have given up on getting the perfect finsh on my guides. I am thinking of securing my fly guides with black electrical tape. I think if I am real carefull I could maybe do an inlay with another color. How will the weather effect this sort of finish? Should I just cover the threads with tape or should I have a bit of overlay on the blank? How many wraps of tape should I make for a perfect seal?S

12. Re: "Pretty"
I just do flyrods. You would not put a lot of color on them because they appear "GODY" or however you spell it. I do spend hours figuring out how I am going use a couple of colors that will make the rod stand out from any rack rod. If you look at Dave Lewis's work at performanceflyrods.com you get the picture. These are pretty flyrods all right but done with an artists view of color. I

I am doing my fiest build on a RX7 matte blank. My question is when under my work table lamp or outside in the sun, there are small portions of the blank that appear a dusty brown or as if some dust was thrown on it. It does not completly cover the portions of the blank but is there. Is this an optical allusion of some type? Any one seen it?

I would pick up a couple of different gel pens and follow my instructions and see what results you get. You can try anything before you seal it with fix a tiff.

This is something I get right every time. Get a sanford uniball gel pen in medium. do your insription. If you screw up wipe off with acetone and try again. no stress here. let it dry for ten minutes. After that spray over the inscription with krylon fix a tiff. I use cardboard or something to cover the rest of the blank section so it does not get sprayed. This seals the inscription. Then just ep

17. Re: ruler
I find a tape measure to be the best thing. I put the rod on the carpet and run the tape measure next to it. Then I put the guides on with surgical tubing and static test.

Thanks for the replies gents. I will have # 2's most of the way up the rod and then #4's and one stripper. I have a custom sage XP that was built for me a few years back but found the rod to be way to fast for my casting style. The good thing about having it built for me is that it got me into rod building. That I will always cherish about the rod. I use it to gage my progress. The guy that built

I am building a Batson RX7 9ft 7WT and would like to try to get by with nine guides. I need a nine guide spacing plan to use as a starting point. I will be casting short distance and would like only one stripper. Most of the charts on web call for 10 guides and two strippers. Thanks for any help.

Really, no fuzzies! I hate fuzzies! I don't deal well with them. I can't see them even with a magnifier. When doing flyrods, the last thing you want to do is scrape off a fuzzy and reapply more finish. Not good. Will let you know how it works for me.

I have a nine ft 6wt batson rx6 that I built and was not to happy with the football finish on the top section. The rod fishes great however. I has a nice struble reel seat and some nice trim wraps. I hate to see someone go without fishing because of money. I would tube it up for you and prepare for shipping but you need to cover the call tag or shipping expence. Tom

mark, I did send a previous e-mail and asked about the wall thickness in the recess area and recieved no responce. On a good grip, the reel seat hood flange only covers about half the inlet mounting face. Tom, Thanks for the input on the pledge.

26. RX7 flat black
I incorrectly ordered a RX7 7 foot 9 wt from Acid Rod. Got the flat black and always go with the beautiful olympic green that they would have had to special order. I think I will stay with the build, maybe, because it's hard to get a hold of them anyway. The blank is very dull to look at at first and with no gloss coating the scratches will stand out quite a bit and would seem hard to cover up. H

My first build went pretty well. I was impressed. I went very slow and got some good results. Now my third build was something left to be desired. I thought I was a pro now. I did trim wraps which turned out great for my first time. I had to wrap thread on the blank because I over reamed the grip. Nice save from Tom's book. Came down to finishing and got some college sized footballs because I was

I have a few #2's and #4's and a stripper guide in my bench. I guess I'll have to break down and build another rod. Can't have these parts just lying around you know.
