62. Re: rodbond
You can't use syringes with rod bond. Just take a popsickle stick and put a glob of each in your mixing cup. Just eyball the amounts, they don't need to be exact.

Garnet always looks good with green. Also take a look at blue dun. No cp with these is best. Tom

Rod building is a unique hobby. There are not enough builders in this world to support one fortune 500 company. It would be great if we could drive to our local strip mall and go into the" rod building is us store" but at this point it does not exist. We can't see or touch what we want until we place an order with a dealer that we haven't even seen. We are working with small companies

I just finished a forecast 9' 6wt and it is not a fast rod. I did not want a fast rod and thats why I ordered it. The rx7 is a much faster blank. You should take your time on this one, to get the blank you want. Tom

Sometimes what you seek in feel outweighs what you seek in performance. They are to seperate things that cannot be compared. It is a personnel thing and I think it always will be. Tom

68. Lesson learned
I am building a rod for my daughter and went, for the first time, with metallic trim. I wrapped the trim as tight as I could but some of those pesky things just want to move on you when packing. Well I thought I would secure them with some permagloss. I overlapped some, on to the main wrap not thinking it would change anything. Wrong! It became a color preserver. I am only using trim on the ferre

I thought I would enjoy reading what others feel is there favorite part of the building process. Well, I will start out by saying that I enjoy designing the rod the most. Looking through all the catalogs and web sites and finding the componets and sizes that I will need. Going to the mailbox everyday and opening the packages and seeing what I have chosen and fitting the parts together to see how

Bubbles can easily be sanded out with maybe 600 grit paper. Don't know why you are getting them.

The way I see it is, small length rods- small guides for short casts. Light and easy. Forty foot casts tops. 5 to eight foot rods. One to four weights. I just put a size 8 stripper on my daughters 7 foot four weight. Now we have to fight some wind and get some more distance. 8 1/2 and up. 4 weights and up. I would now start using 12 and 16 strippers. I feel it depends on what you want the rod to

There are numerous good pens out there. You just have to go and get a few and try them. Micheals is a good place to start. You can write over epoxy. I never need to sand anything before writing on my blanks. I have posted a few times that I found the Sandford Uniball gel in fine point that works great and there are other pens that do the same job. I did have to try some before I found what I wan

I use the sanfoed uniball gel. It works just like Mikes. Dries in a few seconds and spray a little fix-a tiff before finishing

78. Re: rod wrapper
If your not going to build your own, which I suggest only because it is fun, I would go with the anglers workshop model also. It is a great wrapper and well made. I have seen it at anglers. The uprights are are set up just right for easy movement. They also have a finish motor/ dryer set up that compliments the hand wrapper and a very reasonable price. You will be into all of it for under 100.00

Since we are talking about it, what are the advanages of applying finish with a motor set up? So far I have spun by hand but I am thinking about a motor. What is the best rpm for finishing? I will still hand rotate for drying just because I enjoy it. Thanks Tom.

I, like Doc, use the Gudebrod. I do flyrods so I always go no cp except for trim wraps.I hope in the future they will expand their color choices though. Tom

Hi Keith. Something amiss here. That rod tip should fit into the tip if it is sized right. It's also a good idea to gather tips and winding checks of different sizes in case the dealer or catalog makes a mistake. It has happened to me and I am only on my fifth rod. You could sand it to fit but I would hesitate myself. Tom

Hello JIm. I use the same method and it works well. Until I get better I found that using a outside border of tape makes it alot easier. You can pack the trim and main wraps tighter against the tape edge. Also, I put a piece of tape a couple of inches from the wrap, on the blank, and I attach the trim wrap tag ends to the tape to keep them straight and out of the way. After the main wrap thead ha
