This is just an experiment, not an actual build. I wrapped with Madeira and coated with PG. I will put some epoxy on and see if I get fisheyes. If not the this would be a good method of sealing the thread before epoxy if you want the darker, translucent look of saturated thread.

Royally screwed the top layer of epoxy. Got it all sanded down and ready for another coat. Then a few days to dry and try the upper layer of thread again for the tiger.

Hello, I need to ship a rod to Italy for someone in the Navy stationed out there. I got a 3 inch ABS pipe, but it is just barely too small, and rubs on the finish as I try to slide it in. What other methods do you guys use to ship rods? This is a spinning rod with a size 30 stripper that is just a smidge too tall. I don't think I saw any larger piping at home depot, but I'll look when I'm

How long to wait before finish? I've read 100 times let it dry overnight (including on my bottle). Well what if I get up and put three coats on at 8, 9 and 10 o'clock in the a.m.? How many hours equate to "overnight?"

Damn I wish you'd have chimed in a bit earlier Norm. I already had the deco wrap in place and CPed for 21.5 inches! I guess I could move the guide off the deco wrap...

The 8 would be almost the same distance as the 30 and 25. No way to do that in the 4 guide reduction train. I was hoping you could address your thoughts on using a 3 guide reduction train. That may be my best bet, but contrary to what your book says.

Tom, I finally got around to spacing out the guides with your suggestion. I was able to get a decent spacing by going from 30-20-8. This puts the reduction train at three guides. But to do so, I had to significantly bring in the choke point from where the reel spool angle would place it (per your book). It now more closely resembles the KR concept rather than the NGC. The exception being tha

Yeah, I have two of the same blank. Building one for me and one for a buddy. I'll look tonight and see how it looks going straight to the 20. Thanks for the help, Tom and Roger!

Tom, I've read the article in my special edition Rodmaker CD and I've read your book. I understand the NGC (although I obviously haven't perfected its use). I used these because it gave me the straightest line flow without excessive guide spacing, not just because they are offered. I tried skipping the 25 because I usually go 25/16/10/6 (like Roger posted above) on my freshwater rods. But ski

Here's a picture I took showing the size of guides I'm using. These things dwindle in height pretty rapidly. I think going from 30 to 20 would be a little excessive. On a normal set of guides I absolutely would. But these just change way faster than most guides I've seen and used.

Thanks guys. To answer Tom's question, it is a 6000 Penn spinning reel. Can't recall the model, Battle or Conflict I think...it's at home. It will be used with braid (50-65 lbs I'd guess). I'll look into it, and see if I can get a good line flow with those. But the heights are pretty different. There is a 30 and a 30L. It's about a cm difference in height and another cm between the 30L and

It depends on if you're talking about guide wraps. It's to easy to sand down to thread on the guide foot. Deco wraps are a different story. There shouldn't be any high spots, and I have done that successfully.

The guy expects to use about 13lbs of drag. And yeah I suppose I could, but that brings the choker in farther than I wanted to. Again, I don't need reduced spacing at the tip; the sharp angles are in the middle of the guide train. Also there is around 14 inches of handle between the fighting butt and the rear grip. So less than 6' from front of reel to tip. Probably around 5' 6".
