Have question
using gudebrod # 411 hot pink for my wraps and everything looked good and tight until i put the cp on them and you can see the black blank as if the thread is transparent
my question is ( would thread tension have anything to do with this not letting it pack tight enough together or is it somthing to do with the color of the thread

thanks for all the input
i am using guberod cp, the threads were soaked completely thru because i stripped it off and am starting over,
and the method of application is dip brush in the mixing cup or in the bottle
and with a saturated brush just let the cp touch the threads except on the edges
that is when i actualy let the brush ride on the threads to smooth it out so i dont

have used the spar on several rods that i have built for myself and the wife
wont use it any more
it works well on wood but it chips to easy on the rod
after very few trips out i noticed several chips in the finish just from light bumps against the side of the
boat
might consider using somthing else
good luck

(LOL) whats even worse is when ya get in a hurry because ya got to go somewhere and ya
apply the apoxie and then ya realize ya didnt make sure that all the guides were perfectly straight
and when ya look at it it looks like a snake was crawling down the top of your blank
they were close but was still noticeable if ya looked close

just be careful when applying the finish to the wraps past the guide
i just finished a 3wt fly rod and thought i was putting just a dab of finish on it and it still ended up climbing the guide foot time to strip and start over
good luck

16. Re: polyurathane
i refininshed several old rods that i have had for years . repainted with krylon and then three lite
coats of the spar varnish .
the rods have been fished out of a john boat and off the bank with rod holders and the finish is not holdind up. paint is okay so far but the spar varnish has chips in after just a few weeks of fishing
will have to redo them again but will be using a different

when you pull your cut end thru with the loop pull the cut end back toward the end of the wrap it
came from just enough to form a small gap in your wrap. cut thread off close to the wrap
and burnish wrap back into place. tag end is hiden and with good sharp razor no fuzzies

19. repainting blank
have done a search on this and now have a couple questions
i have repainted a few blanks with the krylon fusion and then top coat with the
spar varnish and have found out that it is not very durable
so my questions are
(1) can i apply the permaglos over the spar or do i need to strip it down and start over ?
(2) if i read every thing right the automotive paints and permaglos work okay

BILLY
i dont know much about the reel seats but (what are they made out of ) alum.? or what
check with an automotive paint store.
if they are aluminum then their is a preping stage that will have to be done in order to get the paint to stick to the aluminum. if not the paint will peel off.

building my first fly rod and have a question on gluing the reel seat
(1) it is in 3 pieces do i glue them together before i put it on the blank or
do i put the wood insert on first and then add the end cap and threaded barrel?
(2) if i glue (epoxy) insert then the cap and barrel does it need to be clamped
in some way so the cap and barrel does not move on me?

27. Re: Payment
i have just gotten started building rods but have had a taxidermy buisness for several years
what i do with my taxidermy customers and will do on the custom rod customers is the put a deposit
that will cover all expenses on supplies and shipping charges plus alittle extra (not much but a little)
before i order anything i have that money in hand that way im not not any money if they are s

on several blanks that i have ordered the finish has a build up on the tip which makes it thicker and is extreme tight fit for the tip top
check this and if that is the cade just take a razor blade and gently scrape the finish off a little ata time until the top fits like it is suppose to
just be careful not to scratch the blank

the reamer was made out of a graphite blank with the reamer grit apoxied to it the thing got so hot it destroyed my reamer
MY OPINION IT AINT WORTH IT took way to much time
i was told this but had to try for my self boy were th
