i am real new to rod building but this is what ive used from the info i have gotten here
krylon fusion which it says it is for plastic but works great . refinished 2 old rods and the paint job looks real good.
helsman ( helmsman) somthing like that i think is what it is . its spar urathane
walmart carries it in several colors to choose from

62. jigs for weaves
i am trying to find a set of plans to make my own.
if any one has a set and would not mind e-mailing them to me i would be very greatful.
doc tried but i dont have the microsoft office format so it wouldnt work.

what is the difference between the two?
i have read some say use denatured others just say use alcohol.
does it matter which one you use?
the cheapest denatured that i have found in this town is right at 5.00 a bottle
compared to rubbing alcohol 2 for 1.00
does it realy matter which one i use?

okay just got back from wallyworld with a set of testors paints.
have a question on this.
when i pour the solvents off to get to the pigments will the pigments dry out or do i need to pour
the solvents back in the jar each time?

thanks randy hadnt thought of false wraps. ill do that on the next rod butfor this one ill fill in the low spots and then go over the whole thing real lite and see how it looks.
its only on the two guides below the tip top and will make it three coats of finish.
if it dont look right i will strip it back down and start over till i get it right.
THEY SAY PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT WELL I GUESS

ok first i want to say thank you to everyone who has helped me with my questions and problems that i have had. tried your suggestions and my wraps and finish have turned out looking great.
transition from one color to the next turned out real smooth and straight and the finish turned out with no bubbles and covered threads like it should. THANKSFOR YOUR HELP.

have been using flex coat lite but when i reordered i wound up getting the flexcoat high build
can i thin it down and if so with what and how much?
(i figured out my trouble i was having thanks to several of yall here. and was putting my finish on to thick and now i have wound up buying a thicker finish)
i ended up using it for my second coat and think it will be ok. looks like it anyway

joe i bought the flex coat lite kit when i used all of it i bought the larger bottles and just pour it into the small bottles that the syringes will fit into to draw out the epoxy and hardner
every thing is color coded so i dont have to worry which is which

all the spec sheet will do is get you close. as spencer said do static test for accurate placement of your guides. figure out how many guides you will use tape them on roughly where you think they need to be . tie your line to something solid and low to the ground and start moving them where they need to be . go to the library link above and find the artical on static test and it will give l

75. accent bands
hello all
i am atempting to ad acent bands in my main wraps but it just doesnt look right
i am taping the ends down untill i get ready to add them
make two turns with the color i have chosen to use then taking the main thread color and wraping over

as all can tell i am new to this so i will have many questions
(1) if i use color preserver and it seals my wraps does the epoxy still soak into the threads or does it just sit on top of the threads?

LARRY not sure since you put it that way ! it is good solid coat everywhere else
except little strips on the guide feet. i will look real close and see if it is soaking in or not.
that and i will try putting it on thinner than i have in the past like you descibed and see if that
solves my problem.

80. finish problem
here about a week or two ago i placed a post on finish problems i was having.
and i thank those of you who replied to the post.
the problem was the finish was shying away from the threads on top of guide feet.
was told to try putting the epoxy on heavier so i did and still am having the epoxy shy away
from the threads.
what would be causing this?
i made sure that i did not

use callipers and china marker. set calipers to desired width mark each guide
and wrapem up. dont forget to wipe off your mark or just cover it up

dont get the flex coat how we do it
it leaves alot to be desired or at least it did for me.
it just didnt go into great indept detail.
i learned more from reading and asking question on this board
than i did from the dvd i bought.
just my opinion.

go to janns netcraft. i just did orange wraps with silver trim on black blank. orange stayed bright
with two coats (saturated) of cp. rod looked real good with the silver trim

86. finish problems
(1) i am using flex coat lite when finish is applied it shys away from the thread in spots.
i had read one of the post that said the thread was contaminated and to wash it with alcohol
do i do this before the color preserver or before the finish or both?

completed my first rod and evey thing looked pretty good. some minor things to improve on but
not to bad for first time. but anyway my question is when i put my second coat of finish on and it dried
i noticed brush marks in the finish. not bad but i noticed them. the only place that i could realy see them was where ithe finish went off the threads on to the rod. how do i fix this pro
