I'm looking for a blank to fish 1/16 - 1/4 oz jigs, 1/8 - 3/8 oz spinners, and size 7 and 9 countdown rapalas with 6lb or 8lb mono. I fish mostly for trout in rivers from a raft and need something that is versatile and accurate so I can hit those lunker zones as I'm floating by cover such as boulders, large woody debris, and overhanging cover. Distance is not an issue for me. I was thinking of tr

To be honest I build very few fly rods and those that I do, input on what is wanted is from my customers. However, there is a fellow that I have built several bass rods for and he has asked me to recommend a good overall fly rod for trout and smallies without indicating their size. My assumption based on where he lives would be fish up to 2-3 pounds. I should probably ask that before recommend

Originally posted in response to an older thread, but no response. Strangely a search for IM6 turned up 0 results. In any case it is in regard to the markings of the CRB IM6 blanks. Form example I would not fish 10 lb line on the rod rated for 6-10lbs. Anyways the rest is in the message: Am looking to get one of these built for myself to replace a Berkley rod that came with an Abu reel com

Finally built on this now-discontinued blank and really enjoy jigging lake trout with it. Any possibility of finding a couple more (I know, probably a needle in a haystack) or anyone experience a currently available blank that is similar? Many thanks, Mike

I thought I'd give a performance review of the blank I used for my most recent build, just in case anyone has been thinking about building a rod on the above mentioned blank I finished the rod this past week, and used it for the first time, in a two day bass tournament I fished over the weekend. I built the rod for use as a Carolina rig / deep water football jig / pitching and flipping rod. T

I have not cast a fly rod for almost 30 years, I,m looking to do some fly fishing for largemouth bass on a lake in Oregon. The locals recommend a 7-8 wt rod for fishing this particular lake. I don't wish to build an expensive rod, at least at this point. My thought had been to build the rod using a rainforrest RX6 8 wt 9' blank. Any recommendations for types of guides, snake or minis, reel seat

I have a friend who trolls for trout using lead core line, 8 lb mono leader and small rapala minnows. His problem is losing fish. His rod he uses is a 5' ugly stick. My thoughts are the rod is too short and does not have enough flex once the fish is hooked. The other problem I see is the lead core line must put a good deal of flex into the rod? Is there a rod that could handle the lead core

A friend in Utah asked me the other day what I would recommend for trolling and/or jigging for Walleye. He tells me he'll be jigging, but may also use it for trolling with or without downriggers. Fish will range from 2 to 15 lbs. He is also interested in a heavier similar rod for Mackinaw (lake trout) in the 40 to 50lb range bouncing 1 to 3 oz of weight. Sounds like he's talking about 4 rods to m

I am looking for some suggestions for some good inexpensive blanks for trolling salmon on lake michigan. I am using a 16.5' boat and am thinking 8' to 8'6 is about as long as I can handle in the boat. Prefer it to collapse like a flippin stick collapses. I am currently using my flipping sticks for my trolling rods. I am totally new to salmon fishing but not rod building. I used to build many rods

Hi, im looking for a couple of 10' 2pc 6wt fly blanks or maybe a spinning blank with similar action. 10' or 10'6" moderate action, medium lite power, 6-10lb line. Do you have any suggestions? Rod will be used for flatline trolling tandem streamers for rainbows.

Does anyone know of a roller tip that can be used with a spiral wrapped rod? The reason for the roller is the radius more than the roller. Trolling four hundred to five hundred feet of wire line with 16oz. weight tends to put a bend in the wire where it rests in the tip. On my conventional wrapped rods with a roller tip the bend does not form. Any ideas?

This is an old ice rod tip top. I need to find more. The tube size doesnt matter but I would like a variety of tube sizes. The couple I have left are tube size 5.5 and 6.5. The ring is a #16. The lake trout/salmon guys like these on their deep water ice sticks. any idea on where I can purchase some of these? Thanks, Buzz

Hi All, Most people here talk about rod building (!), but I am just interested to ask what kind of fishing you mainly do, the fish species, tackle, lures, baits etc. It would be interesting because most members are probably spread around North America and the remainder around the world. (I am happy for this to be removed if it is innapropriate) I fish for brown and rainbow trout in freshwa

I built a rod on an FT905-4 blank back in the early-mid 2000's. I hated it for years - couldn't cast it at all with 5 or 6wt lines on it. Last year I had a thought and put a 7wt Rio ultra fast sinking line on it for my lake fishing. What a change - the rod came alive and I could cast the entire line. It became my go-to tool for deep water trout and I loved it. Unfortunately, the rod was stol

Looking for some guidance on what type of spinning rods are normally used when fishing the Lake Erie tribs in PA for steelhead. Are 9'6" rods preferred over the longer 10'6" noodle rods? If so, what line rating - 4-8 lb test or 6-8 lb test would work? The rod will need to double as a long distance rod for Western Maryland trout fishing (trout magnets). Do "Michigan" han

I'm building a rod to go after a couple of the IGFA line class records in 1kg/2lb class, but I'm stuck on which rod blank I want to use. I'm looking for a Mod fast ~8 ft rod that has enough backbone to handle large (10-25+ lb) fish, but is soft enough to use 2lb test line. Something that has a moderate bend in it when pushed with 1 lb drag, but still has more left to buffer if the fish makes

Howdy. Can anyone recommend blanks for vertical jigging lures 2-3oz.? I am finding some fine blanks out there, but they all seem to be 1 piece. I need to take this thing on air planes, so need something that can be broken down. Thanks, Tony

Looking for a 7' downrigger blank, similar to Okuma's Classic Pro (7'0, 8 - 20lb line, 3/4 - 4oz lure). A friend of mine trolls for 4 - 10lb lake trout and is looking for a rod with lively action, yet can handle these fish. Have heard good reviews of the MHX DR845, but not sure how it compares to the Okuma. Thanks for any suggestions - very appreciated!

Friends: I have an opportunity to go trolling for lake trout in way northern New England (Moore reservoir and the Connecticut lakes, also Lake Seymour or Willoughby). Sounds like a great excuse to build at least a couple rods. However, and am not very sure what rod(s) to make for this application. I will guess that we will be fishing on top as well as with downriggers. My preference is conv

This was my third ICRBE event. Great show! Best one ever maybe. I do have one suggestion. Some of the dealers come back every year. I wonder if it might be good to rotate or phase out the older long time dealers that are always there and phase or rotate in newer dealers that have not been there yet. This would give more of the overall dealers a shot at the pie and maybe introduce some new blood t

Hi I need an advice. I`m planning to build a 7'6"-8" rod mainly for casting and trolling for pike, with 6-8" cranks (up to 2-4oz, rather deep diving) and big soft baits (bulldawg etc. up to 3-4oz). I don`t want a stiff stick but a quite soft rod with a stong butt. It will be paired with Abu Revo Winch spooled with Tuf Line 40lb braid. As far as I know MHX line (MagBass mostly) t
