I was wondering what others think about how to install the Winn grips. I see on YouTube that they are using two sided tape. I for one haven't done that on the many rods I have built using Winn grips. My choice has been Pro Paste epoxy. The question is however, which method is better and stronger for the long term? In all the videos no one mentions what type of two sided tape they use,

Ok we are definitely OFF the water for this one! Fuji's KDPS thread cover hood/sleeve may be the most misunderstood add-on in Fuji's product line. Here we'll show you just how versatile it can be for creating foregrips, thread covers and decorative trim. What the lesson lacks in excitement we hope it makes up for in good solid information that will help you make the right choices on your next pro

Hello Everyone, In the last few months I've taken a interest in rod building and have spent countless hours watching how to videos, scanning forums, and looking at components and im about ready to pull the trigger on my first rod. I plan to build a general crankbait casting rod for bass fishing. I'm not interested in fancy accent pieces, intricate wraps, etc. i plan to build no frills perfor

It is so nice to see that major manufactures are picking up on the Winn grips. They are on 95% of what I build nowadays . What is interesting to see, are the variations of these grips style as in the photo below.. It would be nice to know if Winn plans to offer more choices to rod builders in the coming months. If you notice on this rod it has GREEN winding checks. This is the third man

I bought a couple of aero grip reel seats that have a flat back not tapered and it has a bid oval O on the side. Can't remember where I bought them, but they work good with the Winn grips. Does anyone know who carries these?

I would like to know on a casting rod, what is the lightest handle configuration, I'm mainly interested in the following handles. 1. Split Grips in Cork, EVA, Carbon Fiber, & Winn grips or combinations of these. 2. Full Handles in Cork, EVA, Carbon Fiber, & Winn Grips. If you know what each of these weigh that would be awesome, trying to make a decision and weighing all the optio

Wondering what you guys like better on finesse spinning rods and why? I still really prefer full rear grips as they always seem to balance a little better.

Recently I was asked to make a rod exactly, well almost, a rod like the Kistler Magnesium 2 rod. This is a spinning rod with Winn grips and a down locking Fuji 17mm reel seat. On the Kistler they have a Winn grip with their name nicely printed on it but it is however a 2 1/2 inch straight taper in chartreuse. Finding nothing like that on the market I had to cut down a 3 1/2 inch grip then

Mud Hole is pleased to offer the new MHX Winn grips designed to fit the Fuji SK2 reel seats. Finally, custom anglers no longer have to settle for old school cork or EVA foam when choosing Fuji SK2 seats. These grips look and feel great on both spinning and casting rods, and provide all the same benefits that made Winn grips a favorite amongst pros and hobbyists alike. The popular standard M

It dawned on me the other day that I have reached the point where a KR Concept rod is a "no brainer" . And, certain short cuts have emerged from trial and error that make the entire build pretty simple. I started messing around with a build sheet and then realized maybe other builders would be interested in how a really well laid out KR Rod would look on paper. I've used this layout MAN

Need a set (grip and butt only) of yellow Winn split grips. Had a set ordered (found them on clearance for under $8.00 from a sponsor), but they ended up being out of stock and discontinued. I found them somewhere else for about $22, but was hoping to save a few bucks if anyone can help me out.

I like the feel of cork grips, but today I can buy an excellent fly-rod blank for the price of a decent cork grip. Putty-smeared cork grips are not an acceptable choice. The putty turns to powder and the shoulders of the exposed holes in the cork quickly crumble. What alternative to cork is the best grip choice for a person who intends to frequently fish with a fly rod?

I have an old St. Croix bait caster medium heavy dark green 6ft. 8" or so. A friend made it for me over 20 years ago and all the eyes are lose and spaced like they did back in the day, I am not a stranger to building new rods as I have built about 20 including an SCV spinning bass rod that I just finished and love. I remember how sensitive this rod was for jigs and pigs and have time on m

A client of mine wants a spinning rod made with Winn split grips and a 16mm AT Aero comfort grip reel seat. As I see it the standard Winn grips are 1.08 inches in diameter and the AT reel seat will take only a 0.998 inch grip. Seeing that you can't sand down a Winn grip, I was wondering if I moved back to the 0.998 diameter and cut it off would it effect the adhesion of the wrap on the EVA

I recently seen the Redington Chromer switch and spey rods with what they call Polymer Pinch Grip sections. They seem more like a silicone rubber of some sort. I was wondering if anyone is selling pre made grips with this material.

Hey guys so I want to try out the Fuji TVS grips on a new spinning rod. I am not sure though what size seat I should buy or what handles I should look into. I am likely getting it from Mudhole. So I want the reel seat to sit flush with the edges of the rear grip. It will be a split grip rod, and I would like the rear grip itself to be very short as I most often hold the rod by the reel seat. I al

I am building a split grip with the Winn Grips. I need some ideas on how to ream the butt grip to fit the rod. The hole does not go all the way thru and I have been drilling the hole larger and then using a dermal tool the enlarge it. I drilled thru one last night and now I have to purchase a new grip $$$$$. Any thoughts would be very helpful. Phil

Hello Builders, My name is Trevor and I am looking to build my first rod this winter. It is going to be for personal use and will be my first, hopefully quality, rod. A friend of mine has gotten me into bass fishing over the last year and I have a casting rod that gets me by, however I am using my trout rod when finesse fishing and would like to step it up to something a little more substantia

Question, in preparing the butt grip on a split grip I reamed it a little too much. Can I wrap tape to the blank in a effort to make a tighter fit on the butt. The Winn grip I had did not have a re moveable end cap making it a little difficult to get a good fit and I screwed it up by making it a little to big. Phil Ayers
