Gerry The green is Rice 308 (medium Green). I think I got it from Mudhole. The key is to put a metallic thread under it. If you don't it will disappear in the green of the blank. I'm not sure you can see it in the photo but there's a wind of green (about 1/16" long") ahead of the gold at the end of the wrap - basically "gone" on the green blank .

Tom, From experience doing lots of dog and pony shows (briefings to the non-government types). A laptop computer with a powerpoint "slide show" overall has given me the best results. Photos can be clipped in, text added, diagrams imported - lots of "power" in PowerPoint slide shows. File manipulation is dead easy and folks could download their presentations to disk f

Gerry, I posted up a photo for you of an American Tackle Matrix blank (model 846) with gold underwraps, emerald green overwrap (no color preserver) with American Tackle gunsmoke / holographic guides ... I'd like to blame the camera for the blur -- but more likely me / my eyes....

I'm working on an Amtak Matrix now - medium saltwater spinning rod (model 846). I'm using size A gold underwraps with green over / no color preserver as a test wrap on the first guide. If I like the look I'll post a photo or two.

Larry - I tried to set up a complete database on rod blanks. Basically I got "blown off" by most of the manufacturers. I offered to do all the "grunt work" if they would send me PDF files / Excel Spreadsheets of their products. It just didn't happen. I think MudHole has gone about as far as we're going to see for awhile. They were able to "pull this off&qu

2798. Re: scale
Office Depot postal scales are pretty nice - but pretty pricey too. Know anyone at the local post office? I've had them weigh some for me a couple of times to answer questions like "How much more total weight to use x = manufacturer's guides vs y = manufacturer's guides?"

Lonny --- I'm going to leave the mortise in the wood reel seat up to the expert in working with wood -- Andy Dear. The Common Cents / Sense system - possible .... Don Morton's guide placement system also possible - juxtaposed with static deflection testing. Dennis -- I've just about wrapped up (no pun intended) a DVD on Saltwater Fly Rod construction -- end to end / step b

Geez........ Pretty sure Mike Barkley had the first rod clamp idea that was later improved...... Of course I too could be vying for room #1 at Mr Kirkman's retired addict home for the feeble. As far as procrastinating -- hmmm there's the epoxy mixer, the water break tool and now the cork clamp ... all waiting to be "done"

Agreed - the text is much easier on the eyes and the shaded boxes make for better "targets" ... Well done! !

You can respond off line if you wish - my email address is unblocked. I would like input on what people would like to see on DVD format. Simple as that. I'll try to get to it. Although these are distributed by a sponsor of this board and are now sold by at least two other sponsors -- I'm still doing all the work and absorbing the production / distribution costs. Yes, I still have my

Pile on all the ideas - I'll try to meet them all. As I said the first one was a total "experience" - and had a very steep learning curve - near retrograde. The quest is to produce the absolute finest product. If it takes a couple of iterations well, so be it. The "making of" / editing floor stuff would be amusing. You would likely not believe how many times a person ca

My overall favorite for fishing the "outside" of Indian River Inlet and the beach in Delaware is the RAINSHADOW 1264 (since the 1262 was dropped from production). It's longer than you were looking for though at 10'6" but will do sub 1 oz and out over 4oz with "optimum" performance (rod loading) around 3oz. I've built this blank as spinning and conventional casting rods

John, No hard feelings, none at all. I will be among the first to admit that that DVD was pretty amateurish - and from the background shots you can see exactly why I tore apart the entire shop and rebuilt it. Your wife was spot on that the shop needed a serious clean up. It was "down" for a nearly a month between the tear out and make over. What it was is the first video out ther

I'm truely sorry you didn't get more than that out of it or that it fell so far short of your expectations. Unfortunately there are only so many minutes that will fit on any medium.

Bill I was very happy to hear that you are "up and running" again and that the blanks will remain on the same tapers. I (and lots of my customers now) are convinced that the SU1264, SU1267 are the absolute best dollar value for light weight multi-purpose (repeated casting/light bait) surf rods. I was sorry to see the 1262's leave the lineup. I think they were just about to 'catch

From the latest Announcement (above) I see Custom Tackle Supply will not be in Charlotte. I was hoping to clean out the last of the RAINSHADOW SU1262's that Bob might have around (and save myself some shipping money) as everyone else seems to be out and that blank will not be replaced in the new line-up... Ah well, the SU1264's, 1266's, 1267's are also very nice.

Dale, I think you lost me... The layout (spacing) will vary proportionally with the diameter of the blank. I can't think of how a " 2 inch and 1 inch spacing " would work - especially on a 6-axis wrap. Pretty complicated stuff (at least to me). Again I think the starting points for the 6-axis wrap are 30,60,120 // 210, 240, 300 (equal reciprocals to the initial even spacing) So on

Hot water is safer... bring to a boil dip in the tip top and try to loosen. Increase the time it's "dunked" until it's loose. Should not take more than 30 seconds.

Dale, Are you talking about degrees for starting points? If so then 30, 60, 120 and reciprocals at 210, 240, 300 should work for you.

I found a small "chop saw" at Harbor Freight for 18.00. It has a small vice for clamping the blank firmly and a very fine 80 tooth blade - no more hacksaws for me.

What is the texture / density or "hardness" of the 12' chunks? I keep looking at it and thinking about trying it but I don't like "squishy" grips.

It was a very, very nice 65 degree day here in Maryland -- and yes I went fly fishing. I even went fish catching. I took a nice brown trout from a stream up near the Pennsylvania line = beautiful 16" fish that went back for spring.
