Finally finishing up on a rod that has taken weeks because I only work on it between trips to my Dads. He is doing OK but requires more visits and shopping trips so the work gets done when it gets done. This is 100x95 and 5 or 6 layers A with D wrap. Kinda looks like a close friend in a way with the bandana. He has skin but no gold tooth. LOL

Even though the Japanese and Chinese are famed for their miniature art forms we here in the good old US of A have our shining moments too. After I completed the weave for this years offering for the Chuck Byron Memorial Tournament(an event to raise money for young artists), which many of my fellow west coast rod builder buddies have participated in, I started to think about what can be accompl

Here is another rod that the poor guy has waited on forever. It is going to one of my oldest friends(actually partner in crime) son. His school colors and his football number, plus the shark weave and a very subtle tiger.

Trying for more circle and spot formations. Getting close. Basically I burnished in 1/4 to 1/2 inch sections.

Just more experimentation with tigers. This is still a wide open thread art technique. Pictures pretty much explain what I did but If you have questions just ask.

Well this time I did Three identical flat wraps of 9003 size A Three coats of finish. Then I did two-two thread open overwraps in opposing directions with the following threads. Top Black A with Black A and sacrificed one Middle Black A with Black B and sacrifice the B Bottome Black A with Black D and sacrifice the D. If you notice the pattern opens more of the underwrap as the thread

Just when you thought it was safe. I got tons of them and more on the table as I post these so yall are in BIG trouble. These are sort of off the Jim's camo trick. One is 200 plain A Gudebrod with Black A for 15 turns switch to 209 Plain Gudebrod and Black A for 15 turns and keep doing that til you underwrap(pictured) is as long as you want then CPed. Then an overwrap of Black A and 2

Well it seems like I have been playing around with this technique for months. This is just the first set cause I am still taking and cropping pictures. This part of the experiment is just to see what effect larger and larger gaps on the over wraps has. What I seem to be coming away with from this part of the experiments is that the larger the gap the more diffuse the patterns. Here is a kind

Did this for a friend for a project to help our returned soldiers. I usually do something each year to commemorate Memorial Day. This is this years offering but I have to give Owen Dare all the credit for the pattern. Hope your all have a memorable day.

Here is my newest weave. Came out OK considering I am wrapping out of my element and still at my fathers working on a Jerry Rigged outfit. Killing two birds with one post: Which pic do you all think is best or most appealing.

Hi Gang. I am working on making a pictorial on picture taking of our work. Any comments are really going to help. I took the recent tiger pictures again this morning using some different settings an stuff. Can you look them over and give me a run down on which pics look clearest, most colorful and other wise best. Took even more with my most recent weave, not posted yet but done several ways and

Only one comment and the right answer. Hope he sees it here and likes it. Did the weave the first time and it came out perfect and tight but was 30 degrees off center so it got awarded the razor blade. Still pretty happy with the overall outcome for not having touched a rod in over a year(almost two) and doing it on a jerry rigged hand wrapper.

No guesses yet on who this rod is going to. Hint he frequents this site and is often seen at the EXPO and the colors should be another big hint.

I have been off the map for a while with several life issues that would make most of you think blah blah blah. Well I had to do some rod work or risk going insane so since I am stuck at my Dads taking care of his house, medical and personal stuff I decided enough was enough. This is to answer questions I see come from a lot of young and new builders which is what do I need to get started. Bott
