I always bought aluminum rods (Home Depot) cut them up, and wrapped different diameters with masking tape...3/8'' , 1/2'' , etc

Ryan,
Im in DFW,
I live in Wylie, but work in Dallas (near downtown)
Its great that so many here are willing to help huh?...haha!
Let me know if Im a closer option for you..
The best advice I can give at your point,is to take a little bit of advice from everyone and find what works for you.
Raymond Adams site has alot of great tutorials on it.
Take care

The only ardent that doesnt have the level wind (that Ive seen) is the pitching/flipping reel,Because they dont have a level wind you'll notice how skinny the spool is.Limiting to how much line you can load (Im not sure what the yardage load is)...Thats is a technique specific reel....All thier other models have a level wind...
I dont see how eliminating the level wind could possibly keep level

I sort of approach it the same way as Tom mentioned...I find double wrapping definitely helps smooth away lumps and hides imperfections.
Once I add nice, tight trim bands (about a .25'' long) I cut the mess off both ends and then trim the tag ends off at an angle...CP it,then wrap going towards the trim bands because its easier pack (like a guide foot) ,then add a second wrap on top of that...d

Im building my first ultra light rod...Probably around the 6' range
Im use to builidng bass rods in the med-heavy 6'6'' to 7' range..
Is there anything special to consider in making ultra light rods, besides blank diameter?
Thanks

162. Dying cork grips
Hey guys,
Im new here,
I usually build with EVA grips...However,Im thinking of doing cork grips on a ultra light rod Im building next month.
But I read about someone mentioning using wood stain to dye cork grips?...The idea seems neat, just curious of any success stories in doing this,or other ways to dye cork??
Thanks!
