Sounds to me like you want to be able to move the parts when you are placing them into the pocket, otherwise there's zero room for error and you're likely to mess it up.

92. Re: Whoa!
I've had that happen on an SCV before, the SCII musky I just built did fine with no paint lifting with 71% iso.

My schedule @#$%& this week, not sure what your schedule is like, but if you want to do lunch with an amateur builder like myself, we can get together.

Good to hear Billy bring up the torch, I've not mentioned anything because you don't hear folks talking about them, or heating with anything other than an alcohol torch. I had the same deal with my dec wraps, bubbles release from the thread and can be hard to see indoors, take it outside and bubbles galore.

I would consider spiral wrapping it, I use 9 when spiral wrapping mine. I won't build a casting rod for myself without a spiral wrap, as I know others on here feel the same way.

I've done this before and if you have to ream the "old blank" under the seat and handle, it may well be the last time you ever attempt it.....

I've built with an outter sleeve on tennessee grip rod, no problems there. Now I've got a split grip project that needs to add 3" to the rod and I don't have any stock large enough to sleeve over the outside of the rod, but I do have enough to sleeve the inner portion. Is this a smart thing to do? The outter sleeve, I'm confident, will never come undone. But inserting an extension inside

Gabe,
I have a Yankee's themed rod in the works as well. Decals are a hard thing to find, but I did find some fingernail decals on a popular @#$%& site, although small, they do have some red in the logo. Would you be willing to split the cost on those decals? 10 is more than I need.

So I was hit with some noob questions this morning by a customer. I have heard that Lamiglas will custom finish a blank for additional cost.....has anyone ever had this done by them? And does anyone know of other companies that do this?

For nymphing like that, an extra foot makes a world of difference.

105. Re: Wrapping Micros
I've been using the high grade yellow automotive painting masking tape, it's super tackey and even a 1/8" or 3/32" strip of masking tape holds them in place while I wrap. I would try this, but I start my wraps with 2 wraps on the blank and then they start up the foot from there.

I had one complaint about the tip not being large enough, but the running guides being too large by allowing ice on the line to reach back to the reel....something to think about. I've been using size 10 tips and running guides on all my customers rods. Some of my rods have size 8 running guides and tips. The shortest rod I've built this year has been 30 inches though, bunch of 40" blanks

I did this without ever seeing or hearing about it for a customer, only it was to be put over the slip rings for more comfort....he didn't have a heat gun to affix the x-flock shrink grip over the feet, so it was a no go. St. Croix is selling their ice rods with the x-flock shrink grip in ring form to be shrunk down.

I'm looking around for some matte metallic thread, does anyone know of any? It's to match some matte metallic colors on a reel.

SCV blanks for this year will have NSi in them.
I got my hands on a few fly rods with it in them.....and I intend on building a new 5 wt SCV. I still want them to release the Bank Robber blanks, that flyrod is amazing.

I've been splitting ECSM seats with good success, even taking a few mm off the back of the seat as well to reduce weight...If weight is the main concern, I'd take down an ECSM rather than the ACS.

They did not give me the info on the close second, but I figured that was the closest I could get. They said they may offer the blank down the line though. I will try to get my hands on one and test cast it at ISE next weekend at the International Sportsman's Expo in Denver, Kelly Galloup will also be there presenting in the fly theater and demo tank so I'll try to get a few minutes to chat wit

113. Re: a good medium
I found that I only need a 3/32nd inch piece of high grade super tackey auto grade masking tape for micros, the blue stuff does okay if I use two strips and remove the first one when I get on the foot, the tackey stuff @#$%& for most other jobs, but is great for holding micros, anything larger and it's almost too tackey.

114. Bank robber info
I can't seem to find out if the new St. Croix Bank Robber blank is going to be available for sale, does anyone know if that mini-series of blanks is going to be available?

I just did this and it will compress your grip in size...and the edges will appear tapered towards the edges...

Your on the right track, with an ultralight rod, I like wire guides so the foot doesn't hang over the width of the blank.

The customer would still have to register for an account before putting the serial number in the registration online. I just take care of it for them, but I'm not worried about anyone learning how to build rods on their own, the more builders there are, the more of a market there will be and that's not a bad thing IMO. You just need to keep your game ahead of your competition and you won't have

Trying to get Christmas rods done and was about to apply the decal for the rod and it does not have a serial number on the decal. This is the first MHX that I've seen that does not have a serial number on the decal. Has anyone else ran into this?
