learned my lesson from this one, never ream graphite from another handle to use it, you will be at it for hours.....the grip did come out good though.

41. Cat hair
Left the rod to turn over night and woke to coffee filters scattered around. In the dark, it took a few moments to notice the rod out of the dryer and this was the only wrap with hair, the rest were found unscathed......darn cat....

42. First ice rod
Janns 42" 5.0 tip ice rod cut down to 36" from the tip, makes a medium heavy jigging ice rod. First try at foam accents in cork handles. Not perfect, didn't have the correct tooling for the small holed cork, but this blank could have used the larger 1/4" hole cork. Better results for the next one for sure.

This is my second build, very similar to my third build, got two blanks and I'm waiting on a back ordered PB Minima to put the next one together. I'm very very happy with the results so far, what you can't see here is that it's not dry yet and I was a little surprised to see a touch of rod bond seepage from under the windind checks once it was dry, only something you'll notice if you're looking

50. Joke rod
Built this handle to go on an ice rod as a joke for a friend, he got a kick out of it when he opened the box expecting a different rod. I don't think this one will come out of the closet much......lol

I agree with Lance, it would great to have a solid mounting option that comes with the handle. 16" is my sweet spot and I've avoided these grips because they aren't the length I want in a pike/musky stick, now I may look at them differently.

54. Re: Army Decals
Anytime I need something for a rod that doesn't come up with standard "decal" searches, I go looking for "fingernail tatoo"

I've gone to using pac bay minima's to get down to size 4 light wire fly guides for my panfish/trout/dropshot rods. Maybe something to think about.

I have this kit, it feels nice and all, but I don't have a blank I feel is worth of a $125 seat/grip. I average out to $55 for most of my guides/handle/seat on any given rod. Someday Hydra's FL955 will be back in stock and I'll want to put those on that stick. Maybe some Daiwa AGS guides to round out all that carbon on carbon action.

Many moons ago when I was building for bass fisherman who were all about weight savings, I did hit the 2.9oz mark on 7' MH action sticks from the early MHX High Mod line and the Phenix UMBX line. At that time I was weighing everything, all components. I found that the lightest comfortable seat I could get was an ECSM that I split and re-shaped. I was using Fuji BLAG4's for the entire guidetrai

The blank Daniel suggest is maybe heavier than I would go personally, but I do like a strong rod in the jaw jackers, nothing worse than losing bait on weak jacker hooksets. I have been using the solid carbon DH customs blanks, the Perch Pond'r and Walleye Sting'r would both work in the jacker and give a good crisp hookset if you don't want to sling fish out the hole on hookset.

Are you saying you are building ice rods to go into the jaw jacker rod holders?

for noodle tips, I use my flexcoat tip top glue, heat the fly guide foot and run it across the glue stick and place it where I want it. then I'll wrap over it by holding the rod in my hand.
