Been swimbauting for a few ywars now. For full disclosure, I am a Hydra prostaff builder, but they have a swimbait blank that fits yhe bull for the lures. BTSWB955, it is rated 5/8oz to 6oz. I havr thrown 6 oz on it, but the sweer spot is between 2 and 4 oz my ladt build on yhat blank came out to just under 5oz finished weight without skeletizing pieces and parts. I would also totally sugge

Like a creature of habit, I've been ordering from the same place over and over, but I'll tell ya what, I hit Lance up for some guides and he was spot on, quick, and super helpful. I will be changing habits and calling Lance first from now on.

TB has the market on those things, and I'm willing to pay for the quality and specs they have. I was excited about the mudhole "heavier" solid carbon blanks, but they never came to fruition. Their 32" solid carbon blank did me well last year on an 11 pound rainbow through the ice, it just can't handle 3/4-1oz jigs very well.

The folks out in my neck of the woods like to fish solid carbon for lakers, for sensitivity purposes. I prefer the thorne pro series ice blanks myself, as do a bunch of guys who catch nothing but fish over the 15 pound mark. I will be looking at the batson blank mentioned above myself.

Janns has .125 cork... I find that those thin blanks flex too much, I like to use scrap blanks to sleeve the ice blanks in, and then i can use normal handle materials without having blank flex issues in the grip.

I thought I had problems and contamination somewhere when I was using it. turns out, it was the thread itself that was the problem. Some folks say that if you put a few clippings in the finish when you mix it, there will be no problem, and that it what I experienced, but I'd rather not have to juice up my finish with thread clippings when other threads work better for me without any fisheye pro

How big of lakers are you looking to catch? If you order from mudhole, their heaviest power blank is the 30" blank, I wouldn't use the 36" or 42" blanks for jigging.

Does anyone make them? Ice rods can be a pain and risk breakage when clearing ice from the guides. Ice doesn't stick to teflon, and I know they make teflon coated hooks. I know it's not going to get rid of the ice, but it may go a long way in ice buildup prevention and give a longer window between ice clearings.

I saw an article on a fly fishing industry page that American Tackle is setting up a Pro Staff. I just want to make sure I have my ducks in a row here. Aren't they owned by Mudhole? I know Mudhole passes their products on their site without the American tackle name attached to it. And I know that some of their blanks are made by Lamiglas, are all of them made by Lamiglas? Why setup something

Keep it under $100.....I stop folks at $150, and recommend they consider a higher end factory rod at that price, then come to talk when they want something mind blowing and have some real cash to spend on a rod. I do very few rods for decoration or a specific look, it's all about performance, and looks where it fits into the performance build.

Love that LP844, that's a rod I can see myself owning 3 of.

I can't compare the IM700 to the XMG, but I love the XMG LP844. I use it for the same presentation that you listed in there and it works well. Crazy that you didn't like the UMBX, or I wonder how much their build compromises the blank, those UMBX's are some of the best blanks available, IMO.

Best rod I own! Most expensive too! I built a 7'6" MH and it came to 3.0oz even.

Todd, I just received a CIB-42-MHX and a CIB-36-MHX. Neither of these rods are for manly fish. The 36 will make a great light to medium trout rod. I will be getting at least another 2 of these for myself personally. These blanks are excellent, good quality, they feel great for what they are. If I could make design changes on them, here's where I would go with them. I'd take the 36" m

It would seem that you could wrap the same 3 or 4 times around the neck on the way up the foot to the guide ring.....I have zero problems losing guides and I'm using 1/16th" strips of super tacky automotive painting masking tape to secure them to the blank.

Jim, That model is too heavy, I need one for throwing lighter baits, 1/16th oz in size. Bob, The power is indicated as the last number the blank I have an IP841, IP is the rod series, 84 is the length in inches(7'), and it is their 1 power. They have 0-5 power for that series. The tips is considered mod/fast, he is looking for a similar power rod with a faster tip than the Batson rod h

I've got a customer who is looking for a 7' one power popping rod. I loaned him my Batson IP841, and as I figured before I loaned it out, I told him the tip was not as fast as he was looking for. I can find a boatload of two power popping rods, but not so many one power rods. Does anyone know of any other manufacturer that makes a one power 7' popping blank?

I was impressed by a LP844 I built that I ordered one for myself, great finesse rods.

Interestingly enough, the St. Croix Bank Robber rods are built softer in the middle to help open the loop up for throwing those wet socks....no blanks available for those, and they only come in 6wt and 7wt rods.

I hate the orange tips myself, but getting a colored blank may be difficult. I love the Thorne Bros blanks myself, they are pricey considering the cost of most blanks.

No bass guy will admit to being hard on gear either, and are quick to point the finger at another bass fisher as being "worse" than he is with treatment of gear...... 20 rods all laid out on the deck are just prone to being stepped on and abused.

I ended up using that trick on a rod that had a fabric store metallic thread on it, so I took both colors of thread that I used, one was pro-wrap, the other was coats and clark metallic. I cut two 5inch pieces and then dipped them about an inch into the CP and set those aside to dry, once they had dried, I threw them in the mixing cup and all came out well, but I don't know if there would have b

Don't buy a tool kit..... The only tool I find to be a necessity is my cork reamers, which I make from old rods, there is a writeup on it in the Library on this site. A dryer is nice, and I use one, but I have in the past gone without it and received better results doing the sag and turn method. I just don't have 6 hours to wait for finish to set(pro kote) The rest is simple tools and

I think I'll just steer clear of this stuff, if it isn't clean to begin with, I don't want to use it. If I can't find the right color thread anywhere else, forget it, I won't build it.

This is the 6th rod I've had problems with Madeira thread. For some reason, only this brand fisheyes on me. The first rod I didn't care about, it was a hack job broken rod re-cut for ice fishing, fish eyed like @#$%&. The next two I had the same problem and it was two different color spools of thread than the first. Only over the thread would I have problems. The first rod, there was no CP o

Sounds to me like the tourney guys don't take care of their gear like some other anglers......which would make more sense to me since I get more repair work and rod breakage horror stories from the bass crowd that has 20 rods spread across the deck. You can certainly can't build an abuse proof stick....
