Figure out what size reel you would use normally. Use those specs to build the rod. Any minor differences won't make any noticible difference.

Worse case just cut the seat off at the front and ream out the old blank
then remount it on the new one.

Chris, I use Pro Kote for finish. I sign the blank with Testors and as soon as I can touch it without smearing I coat it (usually a few hours). If you are using a single part finish such as Permagloss you might have to coat it with CP first.
Hope that helps.

Btw..... Very sweeet! The only improvement I'd offer is a big D on the bat. ;)

Aa few years ago I sent a letter to an NFL team requesting permission to use their logo. They sent me a one time use letter with their official logo on letterhead. If the customer gives me the go ahea.d I will probably do the same here.Hopefully the Twins will folliw suit. the only stipulations previously were I couldn't proffit from the use and it swas a one time thing. Oh and no disclosure. LOL

If you can live with a. 1 pc. panfish rod check out Batson's Revelation lin e up. The REVS72ul is outstanding. Very lightweight and sensitive. I build it with a BPST reel seat downllocking, no foregrip just a fighting butt. Without a doubt the best bluegill rod I have ever owned. I have several customers here in my area that would say the same. It has been the death of over 300 gills in my boat

I scuff it with scotch brite then sign it with testors model paint. Let dry and finish.

Try black and gold under with black over. It will be subtle but it will look black with a gold background.

Cut your threads off at an angle then carefully fray them with your scissors or a razor blade.

Adam, it seems you may have taken this as a personal attack on your work. If that is the case then I do apologize. I personally never meant it to be an attack on anyone's work. Just food for thought.
BTW: I have looked at the photo page. Your work is well done.

I agree completely with Billy. Form must follow function. However, how do you sell function if your rods are essentially a cookie cut out of every other rod out there?
This time I will play devil's advocate.... Two rods sitting next to each other.
Rod A: Name brand: nice cork split grip, micro guides, nice looking reel seat, fit and finish as good as any other factory rod.
Rod B: Custom

I agree with Tom as well. It is just hard to convince a customer that your rod is better constructed than their favorite factory rod unless it looks that way on the outside. Your MSU rod is another perfect example. The customer can look at that rod and tell it was well made. The internal construction of it was not obvious but it was also not necessary.
To use a different analogy. If I built

Matt, I respectfully disagree. If your rod looks similar to that Shimano Crucial then construction is not something you can sell. Nor can preach quality or technique specific. A different blank won't even get you there. Components, maybe for a short while. But once the major manufacturers catch up to you then what? All of those things, in the eye of the consumer, exist already in that Shimano, St

Build a temporary shim out of tape for the reel seat. Put the split grip handles on, again with tape to hold them temporarily if necessary. Tape the guides on and move things around until you fiind what you like. You will learn more doing this than you will just trusting the judgement of others.

If you don't have to pass any knots then you can go as small as you want. Four pound mono will pass through the smallest guides out there without any problem.
Randy is right about the REVS72UL. I have built 5 of them already and they are a fantastic blank. I built an elixir last year. I stretched it from 5'6" to just over 6' trying to make it faster. It was close but still doesn't compar

If you cut the threads right you end up with the same front edge as you would on a standard reel seat. You are only touching the hood and the blank.
