31" microlite from Janns Netcraft. Hands down the best noodle blank I've ever built on. I've built a lot of them through the years and they are always very popular. Scuff the blank tip and paint it any color you want. As far as the snow Camo handle, scuff a body pipe reel seat and marble it with a white background and brown, grey and a little black. I'll try and track down a picture of one I

93. Re: Wavy finish
Put less finish on and use a credit card to smooth it out. Just hold the long edge near the finish and turn the rod. Works like a spatula.

Anyone have a history on this blank and an approximate value? It is in the original package with the original sticker.

Just be aware that extending the blank will make the overall finished rod faster action.Whether that will affect the "castability" will depend on you and your experience with a fly rod.

My personal favorite for this application and for most panfish other than jigging for perch is the 31" Microlite from Janns. The tip is soft enough to detect a light bite but it has plenty of backbone as well. I would describe it as a moderate action. I have built hundreds of them over the years and they are always popular.
The ultralight from Mudhole would be my second choice. The action

A lot of times I will leave the butt end in the rollers but roll the tip area between my fingers using my hands to support it. Think of it like grabbing both ends of a pencil and spinning it between your fingers. Hope that makes sense. It works for me anyway and I build a lot of ice rods.

Try the SP600 from Batson or the equivant from Amtak (the number escapes me). While classified as a spinning rod, the blank has no idea what you are using it for. I fish a small trout stream in the southern part of Michigan. Most of it is tighter even than the south branch of the Au Sable. Trying to overhand cast Any rod over 6' is next to impossible most of the time. However; a 5' ultralight bui

If that 207$ is the retail cost of parts then I would get around 350$ for that rod.

Size and spacing will depend on the reel he intends to use. Personally I like the PAC Bay Minima 4's. I start with a size 16 stripper and use size 4 running guides if I'm gonna pass knots.

I fish a lot of gills and specks here in Mi and Indiana. Joe is right on with his blank suggestion. The IP840 is a fantastic blank for this application. Batson also recently came out with the revelation series. The REVS72UL is another great choice. The REVS is a little faster action than the IP. I like it better for torpedo bobber fishing with a fly or tight lining for gills and redears on the be

One. High sticked an ultralight trying to free a stuck lure. My fault.

It seems like I read some of the NERBS were using Scotchguard. Might be worth a test.

I have recommended the 201 and the 202m on numerous occasions to my customers. I've never had a single complaint. I personally own a 202m as well and it is as nice as any reel I've ever had. In my regular job I have had the occasion to see and handle some very expensive big name reels. I keep going back to AR. You won't be disappointed.

Anglers Roost. Hands down. I will stack them up against any reel on the market. Ultra smooth, light weight, Just a fantastic reel. The link is on the left.

I do not use a mandrel to turn them. I simply find the center on both ends and turn the down in the traditional manner you would turn anything else. After it is turned I put a drill bit in the lathe and bore it out. The only bad side is you have already put the time and effort into turning it so if it blows up for some reason you are back to square one.
So basically I start out turning them on

I normally turn mine first then bore them on the lathe afterwards. As an alternative you can drill the blank out to the ID you want and get some drill rod for a mandrel with the proper OD.

I would send it back as a whole. When you get it back if you still want to save the handle you might be able to chuck it up in your lathe and carefully bore the blank back out but it will be 50-50 at best.
Honestly, unless you have a lot of time involved in the handle it would probably be less hassle to just rebuild it.

That is a "light" steelhead rod for drifting spawn, etc. It is not an ultralite panfish rod. I think you are going to find it a little heavy for what you are looking for.

117. Re: Ice Fishing Rod
Turning cork is no different for an ice rod than it is for any
other. If the blank OD is too small in your opinion for the ID of the cork there are numerous options. Personally, I opt for increasing the OD of the blank slightly. The difference usually is such that one or two layers of size D thread will take care of it.
As far as guides go I normally start with a size 10 high frame PAC Bay m

Deleting 2" will make a Ml into a mh ish....huge difference. By extending it you keep the power the same but make the overall rod faster action.
