182. Re: epoxy on micros
Why would anyone go through all that trouble Torin? It must take you forever to wrap a rod. And I do not see any advantage to what you are doing.

Yeah I always have a steady supply of dry ice around.
Leave nut on, tighten it down, take 1/2 masking tape, wrap over threads and use as guide from the end. Cut of with dremel. Loosen nut until nut is removed from seat. Clean up edges and reinstall nut. Start to finish of job should be no more then 5 minutes and that includes drinking a cup of coffee.

I see you have never cast a micro guided rod. So until you do I think that the idea that the cast will be shorter should be left in your mind and not posted here. There are a lot of people that build using micros and would be willing to argue that the cast is in no way affected by the micro guide. There is an advantage to the sensitivity by the use of the micro guides due to the weight reduction a

I too have many flipping rods out there with size 3 and size 4 micros on them . Both in an all on top and in a spiral set up with no complaints. I did covert one rod to size 5's as the owner did not like the sound of braid on the guides?????
I would go to micros on any of the bass rods out there.

I use the American tackle ring lock micros. I have had the Batson guides pull out even with a Forhan locking wrap. They just have too small a foot and no contour to hold onto and no tunnel while the American tackle guides address this.

Take a good look at what there is on most of the rods you see.
I would get a set of double foot guides may be 5 of each size in alconite 12, 10 8, 7, 6, I would also get some sv guides in 16, 10 , 8, 7, 6 . Also get a variety of tip tops in Alconite. Mostly. a size 6 ring with tubes from 5 to 7 inclusive.
The whole pile should not cost you more then 75-80 bucks. Which you should be able

So John are you recommending that Josh use the 10 blag as one of the guides before the choke guide on the ultra light he is trying to build? In this case I would think that there is a difference in the guides.
Forum: rodboard 13 years ago

The BY are spinning guides and the BLag are fly guides. You should use the BY for the 20, 12 8 and then usee the blag for the running guides. in a size 5

Josh
First off do no not buy your guides in set packages. When you do that you are stuck using those guides. in whatever size someone else has laid out. Mostly in the cone of flight layout.
Figure out what you need or listen to the help you are getting here and order those guides plus a few guides in different sizes to allow you to compare.

205. Re: guide size
Josh
Why not buy a pile of guides in various sizes and tape them on the blank and test cast. That way you can determine which guide train you want to use. You seem to want to build a lot of rods so these guides will not go to waste as you can use the guides you don't use on your next rod. This will help on your shipping costs as you are buying more and still paying one shipping charge.

What does the butt of the blank have to do with the size of guides you use?

207. Re: guide size
Why would you use that many sized guides? You are just using the cone of flight method. Go to the library on this site and look up NGC
20, 12, 6's up to the tip. Place your choke guide at 27 times the diameter of the reel, up from the face of the reel.

Match rods are long limber rods used to catch coarse fish such as Carp etc. It may have also been used to float fish for steelhead in the great lakes area. Google Match fishing as it is very popular in Europe.
