Hi Bill, The pump on this unit is oil free although I will still use a seperator/moisture remover/regulator from a pump free tank to my spray unit for condensation and pressure issues that may come about. I will not be running the spay unit off the compressor but will off a portable tank like I have mention. Thanks for chiming in, Wylie

Congrats fellas, You've just manged to talk me into the air compressor and I am pretty sure I have done my home work very well if any of you may like to take the same course for the explaination to the signifcant other. ;) In the process I have learned about SCFM and psi for the tools and looking into the tooling before buying the compressor so here is what I have come up with as the most cost

Hi Bill, Thanks for the heads up on the paints! The whole reason behind my efforts in the airbrushing of blanks is partically to justify a very useful tool into my garage I don't have and could use for a lot of other purposes as well. It's a compressor I am talking myself into getting. :) Tight warps, Wylie

Spencer, Thanks for the reply, I have used some of model type paints in the spray cans with varying outcomes and the type I have been happier with may just be what is sent through the airbrush first. Henry, Thank you for your concern, I'm not going to try and get myself brain dead with any paints or epoxies for sure, I think I have taken that far enough already. I have dealt with M.D.M.A.s be

Hi Folks, I have been coating rod blanks for some time now and have had some luck with one apperatice for suspending the rod blanks which allows for complete coverage of the blank with spray cans. I have had the thought of putting thread coating epoxies through an air brush type systems and coating complete blanks this way possibly using glitters and such as well. Would any of you know how the l

My thought would be the same as Ellis's as I have found the flora lines to have a lot more memory then most monos.

Times up I guess and if I had taken my time with the coatings I believe the Salus poly would look a lot better then it does. The only areas that had anything I would consider rejectable are the areas where the coatings were thin and manage to expose the thread to the elements of the winter although very mild this year. I'll post a picture as soon as I get one shot for the photo page.

Thanks Chris, I wasn't told exactly what type of colorblindness I am dealing with as this is a gift from a family member of the colorblind person to the colorblind person. With your suggestion the pudding proof sounds to be the way to go. Thanks again Chris,

Thanks guys, I didn't think this was going to be an easy one. I am pretty sure that from person to person the answer could really vary as each of our eyes are a little different in the way we see colors. Looks like we're going for the pudding kind of proof with this one. Thanks again guys! Wylie

Hi Doc, I have a potential customer who is colorblind and I don’t know if he is blind to the red spectrums or green spectrums of light. My question is will a colorblind person who is non-receptive to red or green light still have some form of gray scale viewing through the different colors that may be involved in a fishing rod? As well would a monochromatic red light source ranging from 635

Hi Grant, Personally I am picky with the balance of the rods I build and what I have done is to mock up the rod as best I can to find the balance point that I like. This has gone as far as taping the guides to the blank with scraps of coating for the extra weight the coatings and guides will add to the blank. The reel seat has been the biggest guesstament with either arbors taped to the exterior

Stan, I have been goofing around with some casting materials lately and have just finalized on what I am going to use predominently. What I have used was a couple of even ratio resin to hardener casting mixes with very different curing times and not so very different finished products. While preparing to do some casting last night I had similar thoughts but the pot life was only two minutes a

Thanks Cliff, Two part time jobs with very randum scheduling and short periods of actual build time are what is really getting the best of me these days. A.S.A.P. the two part timers are out and a real job with set hours is the plan for me. I've been in this too long to just go and quit my main stay job, just as soon as I do I'll hate myself for it.

Hi all, I have a little issue that I have never delt with that has jumped out and bit me unexpectedly. I was given some laminated polymer impregnated walnut a couple years back and having the right tools to work with the stuff I have made a run at an end cap and have a few more parts planned. The issue with the wood that I had fear originally and forgotten is that the wood has some very small cr

Thanks Billy, What you are saying is that the larger ring size makes the clearance at the inside of the ring away from the guide's feet right? If so I might just lay out this alignment a little different so the top doesn't need to be as heavy as a 12 ringed top would be. The smallest guide was a 10, going to an 8 is loosing some height so I'm in for some real changes here. I hate to be a hagg

Hi Spencer, I have noticed the CMNAT's although I have never built with them, thank you. I guess I will have to order a few and see what the difference will be as to the guides casting alignment, I already know what the price difference is going to be. :( This casting rod I am setting up will work with the larger ring sizes of the CMNATs in a 7.5 sleeve but getting into a smaller ring size and

Hi all, I’ve had another idea but the processes and procedures in the build may be beyond my tooling so I thought I would check in here to see what others thoughts might be to the application of the part I have been thinking of customizing. The issue I am having with the parts I would like to customize is that they sit far to close to the rod blank and do not give me the free line flow I would

Lance, There is a customer of mine that is waiting for me to modify a 707 XXH for him. I do know the Kencor name is a long standing one with a great reputation in Southern California. There must be some following on the East coast as well because a boat captin suggested this rod for my customer. (Quote : The types of fishing I will be doing is deep sea out of Morehead city or Calabash NC. These

Hi Tom,Leon, I am pretty picky about the balance of rods and if at all possible work with anyone I am building a rod for to set it up just how they like rods to balance. This really can vary from person to person, some liking a little more weight toward the tip and some like more toward the end cap. Adding as little weight to the rod is also important but with longer rods sometimes some weight w

Thanks for the answer Tom, I do agree that it would all boil down to a matter of opinion. I do have matching wrapped dowel hidden from light in a cabinet for the controlled test so all is lagit. It turn out that one of the colors I was sent by Mom turned out to be rayon so I will just disregard that one as it is very weak compared to the poly. Only time will tell with this one I guess. Thank

Hi All, I mentioned I would do some testing of this Salus aka Athem thread and it really looks to be good stuff to me so far. Barring the rainy days although from what I know rainy or over cast days have a higher UV rating the colors are holding up well. Okay it's only been a week or two but I'm just about sold. I'll post pictures after some more time has progressed. Any suggestions as just how

Yep florocarbs have a higher memory then most monos. That Vanish drove me nuts on spinning reels and spinning reels just evenually give you line twist, again stretch it out, do it again and then one more time. Sounds like that guy from Berkely was trying to feed Tom some horse puckys. I got a good laugh reading that. There is another product called Reel Magic that can help some as well. Spray it

I know of one manufacturer that does this but I am not sure exactly how it is done other then there is an air compressor involved and the grips are hypolon or EVA that it is done with. Now that Kenny is gone I don't even know if anybody at Kencor would be doing this the same way anylonger but you could check.
