The coatings were cleaned from the tips legs before shipping and I know it looks funny but the bubbles create more illumination at the tip of the rod. No time to post the butt wrap now, gota go to work!

A better post of a past rod I built. I can see I have to work on my photo skills and the A over A thread shows a gap too.

35. It's alive!
It's not going to make the Smithsonian but it will make fishing rods. Now for the drier.

I drank some with a fellow the other night and he handed me a fly rod older than I am. I guess I'm supposed to clean it up and return it from the best of my recollection I can make of the evenings drinks and such.
It's a Shakespeare # 1438 WondOrod Tubular Glass Fly Rod produced from 1956 to 1959. The Process No. 1438 - 7' 9" Model FCL on this particular rod doesn't read FCL it reads FCB?

I'd have to argue with you Bill "fishing rod" mentions a reel, "fishing pole" doesn't. They're made to catch fish okay in that sense they are the same.

The reason for this post is the people here on this forum build fishing rods and may have built a few fishing poles. There have been some long time fishing rod builders that have chimed in with what I know as the difference.
I used some language Gary didn't like so much so I guess he has to take me to court now, I told him I was sorry.
Oh well time to teach an old dog a lesson I guess.

I just spoke with Gary and from what he told me he'd rather work together than file a law suit. With proper paperwork in place I wouldn't be against it.
He'd be fighting an up hill battle anyway. I filed for my patent May 19th 1999 and he filed for his in July of 2003.
It's about 30k just to walk into a court room on matters like this these days.
I told him he'd be much better off goin

I've looked into his background as well.
I guess you understand why I made this post.
He really doesn't scare me, I've dealt with much larger fish than him already. I could use some publicity from a good law suit, celebs seem to make it work for them. LOL!
Thanks Jim!

Here is the reason for the questions I have asked, this came by way of email today. Hope this doesn't cause me or anyone any troubles. I got a pretty good laugh out of it but just wanted to back myself.
Below is the email excluding the phone number that hasn't been asnswered yet.

That's funny! Thank you Jim!
Any others like to throw in a couple cents?
I'll explain the reasoning in looking for more posts later.

I'm sure the topic has come up on this forum before but as far as the general public goes these two term seem to mean the same thing anymore. I know the difference I would just like to hear your idea of the difference between them without me stating my mind on the subject.
So what is a fishing rod and what is a fishing pole?

QuoteThat looks like moisture got into your wraps. I see that your guide feet are not fully encapsulated .Quote
I agree although I'd bet that thread is the problem. It looks as though there was very little penetration by the coatings. What brand of thread is the black thread?
Forum: rodboard 13 years ago

Plenty of time with any of the coatings I have worked with.

Probably late but I'd bllng it with some prizum braid or prizum and maybe a skim coat on the blank of either iridescent or some form of reflective media.

51. Re: Thread sizes
On your stronger powered rods start with A and work you way up in size. This way you don't get gaps in your thread when you wrap over a previous wraps. A lot of people use the larger diameter threads for decorative wraps but A works just as well, takes more time and effort though.

Try some hot water on your grips to warm them up before you rod bond them. I texture my blanks as well for adhesion, light scratching of the clear coat on the blank helps catch and hold the rod bond while sliding the grips on.

One thing I didn't notice mentioned is balance. Granted it helps to know what reel you may be building for (most spinners are very similar) as well but my intention with ever rod I build is to maintain a reasonable balance or fulcrum point. Even heavier rods can be very sensitive if balanced correctly.

54. Re: Rod Spines
Quote it has everything to do with where the guides are located. Quote
I concur as well as adding grip locations to some extent. I have found in working toward finding a blanks so called spine that the spine itself will change locations as to where pressure is applied to the blank. It was a bit maddening having the spine move when pressure was applied to different areas of the blank.

That's odd! I didn't get your email Wayne?
Jerry Poindexter sent me an email last night with an attachment that refreshed my memory of a conversation I had with Mark Crouse a while back and the scales are now looking pretty basic.
Thank you Wayne!

57. Scales pattern?
Hello,
I have a rod in the works that I am matching reel colors with thread and going through the picture page I realized these colors are prefect for a scale patterned wrap. IMHO that is, the reel is a Catalyst PTi-A, it works for me in thought anyway.
As well I want to do a first time effort for him and I have never done a scale pattern before so this seems to fit suit.
Would it be possi

I'd try alcohol although it's likely the marker has soaked into the finish on the rod blank, maybe denatured alcohol.
