About to build a new spinning rod for myself and just got my new Mudhole catalog in the mail and noticed they have a new reel seat called the Project X Two Tone Reel Seat. These are pretty sweet looking and would like awesome on my white Castaway blank from Swampland I got (which is a great blank). Have a question though, never used an aluminum reel seat and dont know if this seat would be heav

When I first started building rods I wrapped and used Flex Coat CP. After I used my epoxy I noticed about a month or so later many of the guides were loose, as a result I removed each guide and re-wrapped. I believe it was a combination of two things: one being in experience and a loose wrap - the other being the use of CP. I think it was more the wrap than the CP, but I havent used it since.

The blank will be the Castaway 842 (white blank) that I just picked up from Swampland. Its a 7ft medium action blank. Will be matching the spinning blank with a Quantum Energy Pti20. Just wasnt sure on how to bridge the micro's - do i use normal guides leading into the micros? Again any info is awesome. For the casting blank it will be on the same blank for plastics trigged etc for bass. Wo

Hey guys winter has set in and its time to prep for next season as there isnt much else to do up here. I wanted to piggy back on another thread that was started so I can begin the process of painting some blanks custom this offseasn, but have never done anything like this. I have read a bunch of past threads but wanted to pick your brains: 1.) I will be painting mostly Baston graphite blank

Does anyone have any experience with the CTS or Mudhole Painted blanks. I am looking for a quality blank to build a couple personal rods for myself. Again I do not need to have the top of the line but don't want to cheap out the rod blank to sacrifice color for action. I'd like to get a colored blank but want a blank that will serve the rigours of bass fishing. Any info on those whom have eith

Would like to build a few quality rods this winter and was hoping to spice things up and was wondering if anyone has any information on where to buy a quality colored or painted blank. Any info would be great - looking for a solid blank.

Love the Foam Core Carbon Fiber grips, I am building a crankbaiting rod, would like to know where to get for building a blank with a split grip. How are they ordered, I like the carbon fiber sleeving, any info on where to order a set of split grips and a butt end if possible would be great.

Have a Fuji ECSM Exposed Casting Reel Seat that I ordered but realize that it may need to be reamed out to fit my blank. Its a size 12mm real seat but the blank area where the seat will be placed is slightly larger around 12.15 or so. How do I ream this reel seat out to fit? All I have are the Dream Reamers, not sure what to use.

Will be building my first casting rod, for a crankbait rod. Its a build on an RDR70M Baston blank (glass/grahpite). I have never built a casting rod before, all my previous builds have been with spinning rods. I was hoping you could help me choose some guides for my next build and possibly give me a starting point for how to pick out guides sizes when I order, dont have any guides on hand to d

Planning to use the Aero Blank Exposed Casting Reel Seat with Comfort FInish on my next crankbait rod build. The blank will be a Baston CB70M, the thin blank diameter and the combination of not building with an exposed reel seat has me wondering if I should be getting the 9mm or the 9.5mm. What area should I measure with my caliper to ensure I am ordering the correct size casting reel seat.

What are your favorite reel seats for baitcasting rods - I really like the Fuji ACS Exposed reel seat. Looking for a seat that will be even lighter, anyone have experience with the Minima seats?

Anyone use the Baston RDR70M as a crankbaiting rod, I have seen in previous posts that this blank has high ratings for this application even though it wasnt designed for this. Seems like from past postings that this blank has all the charicteristics I am looking for including the soft action.

Where can I purchase a Seeker BC706s, have not been able to locate this blank??? I see the new KVD rods are blended EGlass and Graohite, and have serious flex. DO you know of a blank from Lamiglass that would be comparable, or is the Seeker blank the blank to get.

I agree totally, I think I will also build a heavier CB70MH for deep diver cranks and heavier lipless baits. I usually dont fish heavier than a 1/2 ounce, do you think the CB70M will be able to handle a Red Eye Shad in 1/2ounce? Again anything heavier than this bait will require a next step up in blanks to the CB70MH. I just dont want to reel in a 1/2 ounce trap and find my blank bent over in

Found some Carbon Fiber Vinyl Decals with high UV resistance made for cars exterior. DO you think this would be a solution? I could apply this to the blank in the split grip area and epoxy over this.

Wont be using anything heavier than 1/2 ounce traps... Would this rod still be too light for this application. Wasnt sure if the 70MH would be too stiff for what I was looking for.

I just bought a Baston CB70M blank for crankbaiting (combination of cranks and lipless baits). I really dont want a very stiff rod, defintely was hoping to get a blank with a lot of play but not too light that I wont be able to handle bigger smallies. Main idea was that I wanted a blank that would be soft enough not to rip trebles out of the mouth and take away from the baits action. Can you g

Curious I am building a split grip crankbait rod, and was thinking of adding some color just on the blank in the area between the butt and rear grip. Building on a Baston CB70M, and thought that a little color would look great in this area.. Would you reccomend this or another method. Also love that Carbon Fiber look on some rods, where can you get this? Any ideas or suggestions or instruction

I just completed a rod recently using Flex Coat High Build finish over my guide wraps. Because I am new I was very aware of sagging etc in my coats. As a result I used a thin coating on my guide wraps. I see in some pictures many have thicker coats on their wraps, is it neccessary to go back and add another layer of finish on this wrap, or is this thicker depth in the finish just personal pref

I used a single coat of Flex Coat High Build on my guide wraps for this rod, it was a thin coat, do you think I need another coating (posted a picture on the photo's area Labeled Red Wrap). When coating the guide wraps do also coat the area beyond the wrap where the foot connects to blank.

Did a spinning rod set-up for my father for Xmas back in December. Had short time to get this done, figured as long as I had one good coating on the rod and it was fully dried I could bring it Xmas day for my pops to see. I took the road home with me as I figured the guides all needed a second coating, read most people do a couple thin coats. I havent re-coated the guide wraps since late decem

I made a spinning outfit back in December for my father for Xmas, because of the short notice and time to complete, I was only able to get one coating on the guides. Do I need to go back and put a second coating on the guides? The applications came out even and very good, do I need to scuff or will wiping down and reapplying a second coat be fine.
