About to build a 6'6 Topwater casting rod for personal use with the guides being the MicroWave casting guides... Curious to the guide placement and how many guides to use being that it is only a 6'6 rod... Any advice guys would be helpful... Figuring my handle length to the reel will be about 8.5" in length

182. How Many Coats
Hey fellas I use Flex Coat High Build to finish my guide wraps, what are your opinions on the number of coats to use. I have used in the past one single thick coating, but am wondering if two would be better.

Actually was digging thru some of my past blanks and located a Castaway 663, not sure the exact model number, looks like a greenish blank, MH 3/8 - 5/8, I wrote 663 on the blank but that was it... Assuming that will do the job

So, I am finishing up building a sweet spinning set up for my old man for Xmas this year as we speak, and now I am looking at what I want to build for myself for next spring. Built so many for others, looking to get on something for myself.
The next rod I will be building will be for top water fishing. I was hoping to build a baitcasting top water rod, primarily for use with lures such as a

187. Re: CB66M or CB66MH
Weird cause most of the more popular jerkbait rods are medium power with moderate fast actions. While I get the idea behind a faster action blank with regards to recovery, wouldn't a rod with a moderate fast parabolic type action make for better hookups... Also like the idea of not ripping the bait 12 inches every snap, figure the moderate fast would move the bait less in distance... Understand b

188. CB66M or CB66MH
Hey guys I have a cranking rod I built on the CB70M a few years back and I absolutely love the rod. I am in the middle of building a few rods for some friends in a local bass club. One guy wants a parabolic action on a moderate blank for jerkbaits and cranks around docks. Never thought of using this blank for jerks or topwaters. Was concerned about the action and recovery of the blank. Thoug

189. Point Blank
Anyone have experience with the Point Blank series of blanks... Have a few builds coming up for some of the guys in a local bass club. Any info on the blanks themselves, or feedback on the quality compared to other blanks on the market. I know they are relatively new, so wasn't sure on how the quality is holding up.
That being said any recommendations on specific blanks from Point Blank only f

Hey guys my old man hates throwing his baitcaster with lighter jigs and tubes (1/4 -3/8oz types)... He loves his spinning rods, and wants me to build him a spinning rod that will allow him the ability to cast easily (wants a good loadable rod on casting) but still have the backbone to do the work when throwing finesse style jigs, tubes etc.... I assume he will be throwing 10lbs test (possibly li

Great suggestion, once all the components are in I will play around with the reel seat placement. I agree a little change makes a big difference. Great advice, cant wait to see how yours turns out.

I was looking to make the handle a bit shorter to make it easier to work a jerkbait.... How far from butt end to the back of the reel seat, roughly 8 inches?//

I do have a Rainshadow Revelation blank REVS68MXF up in the work room. Any opinions on this blank for jerkbaits? Was originally planning to use this for finesse jigs... Wasn't sure if the XF action of the blank would be best suited to match jerkbaits. You guys have more insight than myself.

Good suggestions guys, yes I think a spinning blank would be best, not looking for the bulky mid section or butt that the Mag will provide. Let me know what you guys recommend, looking exactly what Dave spoke about, just not sure I want to trim the blank if I dont have to.

Hey guys was looking for some recommendations for a jerk bait rod.. I like to throw jerkbaits from 7/16-1/2 ounce on 8 pound test mono.. I want a blank that won't be too stiff to lose action on the jerkbait and has some play for the trebles.. Also looking for something no longer than 6'9 as I work tip down and don't want to hit trolling motor. Any suggestions on a blank.

Couple questions, as I am planning a rod build for the primary use of flipping or pitching (pitching most of the time). I wanted something in the 7'3 to 7'6 length range. Most baits will range in 3/8 - 1 ounce jigs etc... I want a blank that will be light and have the back bone to haul bass from milfoil on Champlain, but I also dont want a blank that is too stiff. Something comparable to the D

Hey guys I have a Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth spinning rod that has a cork reel seat. It is one the most comfortable grips I have ever owned. I am in the process of designing and planning a rod for myself, an would love to incorporate this type of grip/reel seat. For those that are familiar the link is attached:
I wasn't sure what components were used. Possibly the Fuji SKM hood with t

Does anyone know if the American Tackle Aero Comfort spinning reel seat is compatible with either the Tour Star or Winn grips, had a special request on a build using these. Wasn't sure if the diameter fit the reel seat, or if they were too big or small.

Quick question using the microwave spinning guides on a 6'8 batson revelation spinning blank. All the other builds using these guides have been with the chart provided. What modifications in the guide spacing and layouts should be made for a blank size not listed.

Anyone ever use the IC722 for topwater applications. Great advice so far, really appreciate all the input.

Definitely want something smaller than the 822.5. I really dont have much issue with over reacting on bites. I have learned to let the trebles and rod do the hook setting. This being said would a parabolic slower action like a cranking rod work better with topwater blank.

Hey guys about to build my father a new topwater rod, he throws mainly spooks, usually Zara Puppies or Juniors being the biggest. Most casts are near close quarters and he throws with braided line. The build will be with a spinning rod, he hasn't quite gotten the cadence down with the baitcaster quite yet. I was thinking something no longer than 6'6 - figure a fast tip action. Any suggestions

209. Re: Batson RDR 70M
Doesnt leave a ton of options, but if it has a good parabolic action it may not be a bad drop shot rod. I love drop shot rods with great parabolic action.

210. Batson RDR 70M
Hey guys have a spare Batson RDR 70M laying around and was trying to figure out what I originally purchased it for. Does anyone have any input into what types of techniques it may translate into for bass fishing. I know its a blended blank, was thinking possibly lighter cranks or spybaits or even jerk baits. Any ideas.
