Well I have built about 3 or 4 spinning rods to date, but as the season slowly approaches here in the Northeast I need to make a couple baitcasting rods to match my reels. I have some questions related to building a casting rod. Is building a casting rod much diffrent from that of a spinning rod? Is there a standard or tip to selecting guides and spacing. And also on a crankbait rod how far f

DO you think the ISB 822.5 will be too light of a tip for fishing small jigs, trigged plastics and tubes. The XSB model is a fast action tip, while the ISB is Xtra Fast. I have my spinning reel hooked up with the ISB model 822.5, not sure that this is a hearty enough blank for the applications I am looking at. Is there a major difference in action between the ISB and XSB 822.5/

I have built several spinning rods with the ISB 822.5 rod, also was really interested in that 802.75. That 822.5 might be the ticket for my next baitcasting rod. Was actually looking to build something that was similar to my spinning rod that could throw the same lures/ Will be in touch Bill

Looking for a 6'8 - 7 ft rod, medium w/ fast tip (dont want a MH action), jigs will be under a 1/4 ounce. Most TRiggs and Tubes/Jigs are going to be thrown with around 1/8 - 1/4 oz the very heaviest. I have a heavier action rod for most jigs. This rod will be used for smallies/Largemouth, edges of cover and around submerged off shore areas.

Looking to build a baitcasting rod paired with a Diawa Fuego, that will be in use for mainly TRigged plastics, tubes, and light jigs. Looking for any suggestions on a rod that would be best for these applications, dont want an overly stiff rod that will hinder the casting ability, but dont want too small a rod that will take away from hook setting. Any suggestions would be great!

I have built two rods on the Baston ISB822.5 blank for bass fishing with finesse style presentations such as 1/8 ounce jigs, wacky rigs and shakey head fishing. This blank has a great tip, can feel the bites down deep and has enough backbone to set the hook on deep fish but enough tip action to feel the bites and not rip the light wire hooks out of the fishes mouth. I have used the following:

Looking at the following blank to use for a new build primarily for rattle trap type lures and crankbaits, wonder if anyone had any input on these blanks: CB843-Blend 7' 8-14 3/16 - 5/8 MOD-FAST MED Action

Well guys have finished my first rod pending the decals - and have started my first build for someone else, a beautiful spinning rod for my father for Xmas. I will have to post pictures when I am done. Wish I had made this one for myself. Anyways - my next rod will be for myself. I am looking to make a baitcasting rod specifically designed to throw crankbaits and lipless baits - such as a Red

Hey guys after wrapping a few rods, I noticed that I need some type of color preserver to keep the thread color on my guide wraps. Used a greyish thread, and after applying the finish they are all now black. Totally lost its thread color, looks fine still, actually looks good with the guides but in the future what kind of preserver should I used. Use Flexcoat guide finish on my rods. Any tips

Any tips on applying this full color water slide decal (white backing) to my rod. Question for you guys aswell, my decal has lettering along with the logo, in full color on a white backing. Does this mean that when I apply this decal to my rod I will have a white outline around the lettering and logo? Impossible for me to cut each letter... Had I know a white background would outline my logo I

So in other words if I wanted a wrapped decal, I would use my digital caliper to measure the diameter at each end of the decal, and then multiply by 3.14 to get the circumfrence at each end of the decal. This would infact allow me to get the decal in a wrapped version for the rod. If I just wanted to get a decal for the side of the rod, I could probably also just use the caliper reading which w

I actually am making this build using the same Baston blank. I just ordered the Fuji KDPS 16 locking nut, and plan on trimming down both the locking nut and Aero threads. I actually ordered some specialty components from a local rod building shop that specifically fit the end of the KDPS 16 as my winding check. Fits as an insert for the nut at the fore of the seat. I will post some pictures o

Any easy way to get a decal size without being a Math major? Have read thru some of the past posts, and it seems alot of the methods are very involved. If I dont want the logo to wrap the entire rod, could I use my caliper to get the circumfrence and then divide it by 3.14 as Decal Connection suggests, and then just get my desired length? Or am i way off. Guess one gets the feel as they do thi

Have decided to go with the Aero Comfort Grip from American Tackle for my next spinning rod build. In an effort to keep comfort at a high value I will fit the seat to the rod in a down locking manner (threads towards rod tip). With this said I am a bit hesistant to have the exposed threads, as I know this isnt the most comfortable part to be in contact with for an extended period of time while

Was planning to use the Fuji IPS Reel seat in ulocking fashion, I have a premade cork foregrip that fits the reel seat perfectly. He has a Diawa Iacanelli Rod with a similar reel seat style. But on the other hand the Aero Comfort Grip may be more appealing to him. He holds the reel between his ring and middle finger so I am taking this into account when designing the rod. Like you said, I can

I am planning to make a rod for my father for Xmas, and after having succesfully completed my first couple rods, I feel I am ready to make one for someone other than myself. I wanted to get some opinions. I am building a spinning rod on a Baston blank (6'10), split grip style. For my reel seat I am torn about which direction to proceed. One direction has me using the Aero Comfort Touch seat o

I have just completed wrapping all my guides on my rod. I wont get a chance to actually apply the epoxy to the wrapped guides for a couple days when my schedule free's up... Question for all you veteran rod builders: do most of you apply two coats of epoxy to the guides or am I good with just one. If I need to apply more than one coating, how long should I wait before applying the second coat.

Just wondering how everyone prepares setting up their guides to their blanks. I currently completed my split grip and have marked my spine. I will attach my spinning reel to the seat and run the line through the guides to get the best guide placements. How do most of you secure your guides to the blank prior to wrapping - I know some guys use masking tape. Wasnt sure if some of you employ dif

Just wasnt sure if a normal size cork or EVA would fit up inside the AERO seat. I will have to order one and play around with the shaping.

Looking to utilize the American Tackle AERO Comfort Reel Seat on my fathers build for Christmas. Looking to make a spinning rod split grip design, was interested in learning if I need to purchase a special cork or EVA rear grip to use with this handle, or if a regular grip will accomodate with fitting this reel seat.
