Looking for the easiest way to measure for accurate sizes in winding checks. Would I be best in going to Lowes and getting a digital caliper to get a good measurement? I want to make this as painless and as accurate as I can when ordering components..

Have a size 18 American Tackle Halographic reel seat. I was hoping to shorten the overal length of the reel seat, and have noted that many people have used a file to take the size down. What are your suggestions.

I guess I could utilize the Baston EVA Foregrip, measures 2.5", as my rear grip on the split grip. I would just need to shape the grip to my style, using the dry wall screen and sandpaper (varying grits). I have a size 16 Baston graphite woven spinning reel seat so this should match up well with the foregrip, in this case acting as the rear grip. Should this work?

Currently working with cork by hand, takes a little longer but I dont mind. Especially with the cold season setting in up here in the NE. Figure I can work with EVA using dry wall screen and varying grits of sandpaper. But I guess my main question would be cutting EVA to a shorter length. What is the length of the EVA set up from Swampland?

Have a request from a family member to do a bass fishing rod, with a split grip, made of EVA foam handles. I do not own a lathe, and am having difficulties locating EVA grips that are only about 3 or 4 inches in length. Couple questions: 1. What is the easiest way to cut EVA to shorten the length 2. Best way to shape EVA without a lathe? Wasnt sure if the process could be completed muc

Have a buddy who loves his Quantum Energy spinning reels and was surfing the internet and discovered some components that he feels would be a perfect match to his Energy reels that have the holographic color to them. He located a set of guides from Baston, which are the Chameleon guides. Any feedback on these guides? Wasnt sure if they were a high level guide or just gimmick. Have a feeling t

When sanding your cork grips to shape, what grade sand paper do you reccomend. Plan to glue my grips and then sand to shape this week, any tips or advice would be helpful.

Not sure that I like the Micro Guides yet. I am aware the Recoil Guides do not come at a cheap price but I like the overall concept of this guide. I guess it may be in my best interest to purchase a variety of these guides and sizes and use the concept mentioned in the Library, as suggested, to determine guide sizes and placement. Access guides can be used in the next build.

Building a split grip (no fore grip) 6'10 spinning rod on the Baston 822.5 for whacky riggin'. Looking to put the REC Recoil Single Foot Spinning Guides on this set up. Any ideas on guides size selections, or a rule of thumb for buying guides for building a rod - wasnt sure on what sizes to buy individually. I was planning buying a few of each size and going from there. Also I am planning

Looking to put an EVA split grip design on my spinning rod. Will have an uplocking reel seat (most likely one of the FUJI Deluxe models - size 17), will not have a foregrip on the rod to add to the rods sensitivity. Looking for a good EVA rear grip (was hoping to locate a rear grip around 2" or shorter). Any suggestions on the rear and butt grip. Or this setup itself. Ordering the compo

May seem like an odd question, but I am in a tough location in upstate NY and do not have access to a person of note that I can drive to and buy blanks and components for custom rods. I am aware there are a wealth of businesses that I can go thru, I was wondering if anyone knew of a bass blank/component supplier that accepts Paypal rather than credit card (trying to get rid of this if you know w

Looking to put a split grip on my spinning outfit. Plan to use a FUJI deluxe reel seat, most likely in an uplocking position to enhance contact with the rod blank, and no use of fore grip. Looking to find a good solid EVA foam grip for the rear grip and fighting butt... Any suggestions, does Baston carry this? I just want a change from cork handle

I see the Kistler Heliums are equipped with these guides, would you suggest the single foot guides over the other version of the recoil. I am leaning towards using these on my next build for a 6'9 spinning rod.

Back to my wacky rig rod, I decided on the idea of making two rods for the same presentation, why not fisherman always need more rods and reels. For the most part I am finesse fishing these rigs on little or no weight. I like the idea of both the St. Croix 3C69MLXF and the ISB822.5 from Baston. Any suggestion on the reel seat, I want to attempt to keep this rod light, a split grip is a must... I

I plan on starting with some less expensive blanks to make rods for my two young nephews and working forward from there, this would be for a rod in the offseason once I get my bearing straight. Also that Forecast blank looks good, I will take a closer look tonight. Could be viable option

Hey guys looking to make a spinning rod for finnesse style fishing, focused primarily on Wacky Riggin' (open hook). I use this method alot back home and was hoping to construct a spinning rod hopefully around 6'9 of ML action. I want the rod sensitive enough and have enough play so I am not ripping the bait out of the fishes mouth, but just enough leverage that I am not overpowered. Probably l

Hey guys new to building and wanted to start making bass fishing rods for my father and I, and maybe a few friends to start. I wanted to get your opinion on what Rod Wrapper I should purchase. I am interested in a hand wrapper, and I noticed that FlexCoat makes a hand wrapper. I would rather purchase than make my own to start. Maybe down the line I will construct my own.
