Good question, casting rod teamed with a Ardent Apex Elite and 12 pound monofilament. As for the small mouth they run 2-3 pounds on avg, size sure they are not all that massive but they fight more than a 5 pound large mouth and have a tendency for the ariel flare. Only thing I fear with a ML is being too light in power. Don't want him to feel under powered throwing a plug, or exhausted from havin

Just finished watching the Peach Bowl with my neighbor, whom wants a new top water rod. A little info, he loves throwing top water rods, everything from Skitter Pops, to Prop Baits to Whopper Ploppers. He's a short guy so I am okay with cutting a blank to get the desired length needed. That being said I am kinda of torn on where to start with him for a blank. We do a lot of Smallmouth fishing so

Well said Norman, I follow the same guide train layout. Lots of different preferences out there, especially regarding the reduction train aspect. You have some awesome advice here!

Thanks David for the info on the Immortal blank it was one I was considering but wasn't sure on the power being a ML as listed, good to hear it fishes as a medium. Definitely want a blank lighter in the tip so this fist the bill in my book, also the Owner Flashy Minnow is something I recently ordered but haven't yet thrown. Thinking it will be killer up here in NY on the smallies.

Nice blanks, but a bit north of my price range for this build. Probably looking to stay around 100 for this blank, I am sure their quite a few mid range blanks that will handle the same job as a Point Blank. Good recommendation though appreciated

Hey guys Happy Holidays! Hope you and your families are having a great holiday season. Now thats it's full blown winter here in the North East, I need to get back into the lab and get a few more rods designed and built for the coming season. I am planning to replace my swim bait rod for this season, which unfortunately broke during a cast in the middle of the blank, pretty nasty break. I

Right handed reeks the spiral placement should be to the left correct. And do most start the stripper guide at 0 degrees or do u find u need to offset the first guide to allow the line to lay consistent on the reel.

Was thinking of attempting my first spiral wrapped pitching rod for my own personal use. What are some things I should take into account with this rod, regarding setup and placement of the guides. I know I will need to static test, just looking to get a starting point from which to start with. Any guides that people prefer to use with this setup. Last, with this guide setup would most still o

6'10 in length, and the handle is too long for my liking for jerkbaits. Like the action and rod itself, just wish it was 6'6-6'8 in length with a shorter handle. My cadence is tip down like a shorter rod

Exactly, if I don't like it after I do it, it just won't go in the boat. Wouldn't have gone before... I may remove the grip and seat. Depends. I can probably cut it off with my dremel

Quick question guys, have a Fenwick Elite Tech split grip that I love using for jerkbaits but the length and handle is just too long. I could easily cut off 4" from the butt end on the rod and put on a new butt grip, and this would eliminate the handle length issue. Do you think this would ruin the action. It's a fast action rod, figure it may slow it slightly but no issue with that. Figures

Have had good luck with Revelation blanks, wonder if the REVS62M would fit the bill. Medium power, fast action 1/4-5/8 weights.

I do like the idea of a Moderate Fast blank, it does have distinct advantages in certain areas once the fish is hooked up. BUT, I also do not want to hinder the action of the bait, or make it more of a struggle to create the correct cadence. My fear is the Moderate Fast will not be responsive enough when working a quicker cadence. Guess I am not sure just how slow of a blank it is. May be bet

Hey guys considering building a Jerk Bait rod on the CB68 that is Moderate/Fast Action and Medium Power. I know the norm is to build on a F or even XF action for a jerkbait so you can get a quick recovery. But I also like the idea of the having the Moderate/Fast Action, and hoping that may give me the best of both worlds that I am considering. This is also not a glass blank, but rather a graph

141. Senko Rod
Guys looking for a blank under $100 for throwing weightless to 1/8 ounce Senko 4"... Will be building as a casting rod, and need something with a light tip with good power in the butt. I will be using this on weed edges or weed flats, not matter grass situations. So I won't be throwing this in super heavy cover, have a heavier action blank for this. I want some thing that will be sensitive,

So guys, settled on a rod blank, plan to go with the Spin Jig Bushido Warrior blank, either the SJ68/6-12 or the SJ72/6-12 version. Guess I am weighing my options as to which one will be the best length. The rod is really for light finesse presentations for 2.8 size open water keitechs and light 1/4 oz finesse jigs.... Was thinking the longer length will give me the casting ability, guess I am

Don, any advice on the power of the blank. If I am pitching and using 50lbs braid, should I opt for the 7'2 or 7'8 sizes in the Heavy, rather than the MH. The 7'10 option is too long for my interests. Thanks

Was at an outdoor show yesterday and got the chance to look at a few custom built rods by a small southern based company..One of his rods was a CB710 Bushido blank, which was listed as swim bait, cranks and pitching. This being said could one build a pitching rod with the CB72 (heavy, Moderate-fast)... Not looking for recommendations for other brands, this was a question more pertaining to this
