Hey guy planning to build on a 5'4 MH blank for skipping docks etc... Was thinking of a spinning reel rather than fighting birds nets on my casting gear... Question I have is, how long of a handle from reel stem to butt would be best on this short of a rod. Would u guys use the KR Concept on this build, or does the shorter length change a potential layout.

Kinda sounds like the start of a rumor hahaha. Think Brook squashed that.

Exactly I tie one line from the tip to a weighted item and then use a casting plug or bullet weight to keep the second line just tight enough to track the line flow in the guides

Awesome information, do you think the size 5.0 would be better suited in the KB/KT's with the larger braid... Always concerned about braid with leader knots and smaller rings.

Hey guys, my father is pushing me to build him a spinning rod he can use for pitching plastics in the grass (he hates his bait casting setups, he's old school and more comfortable with spinning reels). This being said I am planning to build on a Batson Revelation 72MH spinning blank, and he will be using a Johnny Morris Signature Series 40 reel (which kinda seems like a size 30 to me). Mainly

What colors will the Winn Grips come in for the VSS reel seats?

Guess it's personal preference but I have liked my results with the Fuji NCP, colors have seemed to stay the same for the most part. But have used mainly dark colors.

Went to a NOCP thread and have had great results and eliminated the need for CP altogether.. I also didn't like using CP on guides

Wealth of info here!! Any blank recommendations for a shorter rod? Should I then be looking at something MH with a fast action if 6' or less for skipping weightless worms etc..

Not married to any specific lengths, just wasn't sure how a rod under 6 foot would fish.. I can see the advantages of a shorter rod for skipping with an underhand cast, but how about the leverage... Guess I just never used a rod that short so I am unfamiliar with how it would handle.

Looking for input on an upcoming build. Looking for some recommendations on a spinning Rod build for skipping weightless senko type lure or wacky rigged worms under docks... Seeking a blank around 6-6'8 at the most.. Want a blank that will give me the best load on a skip cast but also have power in the mid section to clear dock supports etc... Anybody have advice on specific blanks that fit this

Wow, I live in upstate NY and have green grass here. We lucked out and the snow tracked to the southern part of NY... I am sure it won't last though, but I am fine with the no snow.

Hey guys have a blank in the back room I must have picked up awhile back, I think it's a Castaway MB764... Looks like its a 7'6 Heavy/Moderate Action... Anyone have any information on this blank?? Wasn't sure what kind of blank this would be for pitching creature baits. Wasn't sure if anyone has used this blank in the past and what their opinion would be.

That Bushido is a goo combination of power and action and length you will need. Good suggestion.

Keep me posted which direction you take. Action of the rod needs to be tied into the power. I personally wouldn't have an issue with an XF action blank as long as the power was dialed down to a ML. Flouro has "some" stretch but really wont be enough for a buffer. Remember the hook set with a spybait is more sweeping or reeling into the fish, so for me personally I like a lighter powe

Spybait is basically a jerkbait weighted to allow it sink, with props on both the front and back. Guys use them for suspended bass, on light line. Spybait in my opinion is more of a finesse tactic to get what you need the bait to do. On clear northern waters I fish, I use 5# and 6# flouro on a 7 foot medium or medium light blank. I actually built my a few years back on a Batson RDR 70M, it's

Quick question, I have been using my drying motor to use when I am applying my epoxy finishes to my guides. But I think I need a higher speed motor so I can get the finishes completed a bit quicker and more even. The slower RPMs seem to make it difficult to get from point a to point b without needing to heat the epoxy to make it more workable by the time I get to the final few guides. What spe

Same to you buddy!!! I am with you, I am building a couple now, and then around June I plan to upgrade the electronics at my console. Yeah I like Flouro a little better than the braid, I use both. But for this build I have no problem designing to use with flouro over braid, as I prefer heavier flouro anyways. Just easier to deal with. I will check out the Immortal, great suggestion.

Wanted to get your take on the following two blanks (I know the prices are different, one is for a personal build, while the other is for a buddy whose not looking to spend quite as much). So I was considering the following blanks: North Fork Composite SM-Flip766-1 Castaway BB1 Looking to use as a pitching rod with fluorocarbon, most weights ranging 3/8-3/4oz, rarely venture over 1oz

Agreed with everything you said, I fish some pretty heavy cover up here, mostly in chestnuts and mill foil on Lake Champlain etc... I am rarely fishing on a slack line, I usually pitch to certain places and rarely leave the bait on a slack line, usually pitch hop a couple times and bring it in and repeat. Depending on the cover, I either can see the line tick or move, feel a bite or simply feel

Awesome discussion, I was in the middle of choosing a pitching rod for myself and my tournament partner, and was curious about the blank actions as well. Never really thought much about Moderate action for this technique, always assumed the faster load the quicker the hook set in the slop and the greater control. But the moderate action makes sense now, in most cases, hook sets are up close an
