Does anyone have the spool size of a Shimano Stradic 8000fi? I also would like the spindle height off of the reel foot. I normally would have them ship me the reel but I have a short time on this rod and he is waiting on his reel to come in. I am hoping that I have something comprable that I can test cast with. It will be used on a Seeker hercules Inshore heavy for sightcasting to cobia and amber

I have 12' of bed with my Clemens and still wish I had more. I build a lot of surf rods and like to apply epoxy on my lathe. I use a tool rest to produce nice clean edges on my guide wrap epoxy that gets really difficult when I am on a 13' rod with 18" of rod hanging off the end

Problem with this blank selection for me is to make sure it can throw 5oz effectively yet not be a complete brute when fighting the fish. I could possibly trim the inshore lite as I have heard that 3oz is the top end now on it, I'll check out the hotshot blanks also

I have a guy wanting a rod to sightcast to Cobia/amberjack mostly from a pier but from a boat also. He will be throwing 3-5oz bucktails and eels with a stradic 8000 reel. He is wanting the rod to be 6.5-7' long. I usually build a 9' blank for most guys in this situation so I havent done one this short or with this much weight either. I was considering the Seeker inshore heavy Billy has but I am a

Just out of curiosity how many of you have thrown the SUR 1083? 3/4oz on that blank is just not a good Idea IMHO, you wouldnt even begin to load it. you would be much better suited with Darrin's suggestion of the 1085 whether it is the SW or Viper series. Where are you located? if your anywhere near me you can check out the 1083's I have and see for yourself

I personally dont think the rainshadow 1083 will throw 3/4-1oz very well. The ratings say so, but the blank doesnt. I have a couple of that blank in my shop right now and you can throw up to 4 oz on it. It will throw 1oz but likes 2-2.5oz better.

101. Re: Gudebrod
We will agree to disagree on this one Tom. I know people that live in town and have been told numerous time that Gudebrod has not been operational for a while, may not have been official, but there was definately truth to what was posted.. There is a good supply and I do look forward to trying the Amtack threads. I have personally been using Fishhawk 95% of the time where I use regular Nylons. I

102. Gudebrod
With the recent layoff of the entire workforce and closing the doors for time being where will everyone go for their nylons now? About a month or so ago it was said here that Gudebrod was done and people on here basically said it was a lie to promote another distributor/company. Not trying to stir any crap but I hope everyone that did that feels like they owe someone an apology.

Well Guys Thanks for the help. I tried every already mentioned before I posted. I finally went and got an easy out to try to remove it but, I broke it off also. Finally just cut off the set screw, will replace it and the hand wheel as soon as they get here. It was waaayyyyy cheaper to tear up the hand wheel than keep tearing up tools. I spent about 60 in now broken tools and the hand wheel was l

I have been trying to remove the hand wheel but am unable to remove one of the set screws. Any help would be appreciated. I have broken about 6 allen wrenches so far and still havent got it to budge. I got the pleasure of seeing this rod last week in person. Matt did a great job and the color change made a very nice variation to the wrap.

Why the 16oz requirement? I fish the point and all over the outer banks and usually even when its snotty 10 and bait works. I would look at the new Cast Pro Series from Tommy Farmer, fishsticks carries them. His 13'6-10 will handle 10n bait fine not sure about over that though

I"ve had a customer ask me to build a rod for his wife, he already had one built by someone else for himself that he said was a G loomis SJ721. I build mostly big surf sticks and am not familiar with this blank at all, could someone give a good comprable blank suggestion to this, brand is not important, and so far price isnt just looking for some good suggestions for him

I do a thin layer of epoxy on underwraps also, helps make things go smoother, and helps if you have to repair a guide later

IN some ratings your are right they are way off, but on most they are close. If you want a little longer the new Cast Pro from Tommy Farmer has a 13' 3-6 rod that will launch the rated weights, Scott at Fishsticks has them.He also has a 12' 3-7oz that would be perfect for that, they are worth a look for sure
