Russell,
In tournament casting settings I topped out at 670 something feet. I have had some casts longer than that but they wasnt official. In the world of most fisherman I am an above average caster, in the world of distance casting I am average to slightly over average at best. I use 17lb sufix tritanium on an 8n bait rod with a 50lb shock leader. As far as casting styles go, in slow out fast

39. Rod overloaded?
I fish for anything anywhere, but my heart belongs to surf fishing. I throw a lot of 8oz n bait rods, and this got me thinking. When we are using a rod designed to throw 8oz there are more times than not that a big fish cant come close to loading the rod fully, the extra power is for casting. When watching some video of some top surf casters I was really paying attention to how the rod was loade

IF the permagloss is not gelled it should be fine, same for the color preserver. make sure you use the preserver sparingly that formula is no longer available, well if it is the clear one anyway. Im almost out and looking for more now

Just a couple of things, the Batson SU series hasnt been made in years. The Batson Line is now made over sea's. And I really cant think of a single guide made here in teh US, but could be wrong. Wish I was of more help than that but its all I have to add right now, look at Lamiglas , St. Croix, or Seeker for US made blanks

I always clamp up my cork grips as the last thing I am doing that day. That way they will stay clamped over night and I will not be tempted to early. I usually turn the next day, but by the time I do its usually been over 12hrs. so far I have never had a cork grip bust while turning, now eva....thats another story and another adheasive

47. Re: What to do?
I dont have any words of wisdom...Im not that smart. I hope you hold on to your stuff and one day find the inspiration you need to get back at it. When I am looking for that spark, I find it in THE NERB and TEH NERB's photo albums. IF you do decided to make a gathering/BBQ fishing trip whatever it may be, I would gladly drive up there to meet you. The best way I can put it is with my son Tyler. H

I have built several with those guides, they were originally intended for rods over 12' in length but you can make it work. YOu will find that you dont need as many guides as you have listed with the lowriders. I personally like to switch to the MN's after the 16 as I feel I get a little better layout that way. One thing though a 5000 saltist is huge for that blank, I would use a 4000 size daiw

LMAO! Ken, but isnt it so nice to have something in common with your Lovely wife. I am fortunate enough that my 10yr old son builds and does closed wraps. It is great to have another passion in common with him

Yep not true at all, I really dont think there is much saltwater stuff at all, being a huge surf fisherman I am excited to have a exhibitor that is mainly a surf blank dealer in hatteras jack.

Roger, you may have no reason to trim a reel seat but that doesnt speak for everyone. I personally trim all my personal rods reel seats. Since I am a surf angler and use reels without levelwinds I have to lay the line back on my reel. In most cases a size 24 reel seat is way to long for my needs and I wind up with my hand partially on the reelseat while laying the line on the reel. Thus I trim my

EVA to EVA use the red can contact cement, make sure you get the liquid not gel it is easier to work with. I have tried both. This is the same Glue Billy Vivona uses on his inlays.
