For around $20 you can get a foot pedal designed to work with lathes, scroll saws and other power tools. Just plug in your rod wrapper and use it. I use mine on a ShopSmith to vary rotation speed without changing belt gear ratios.

It may work, but the fumes will be noxious, you won't have a lot of time to apply it, and you may end up stuck to your rod grip.
Permagloss likely also has better abrasion resistance/ durability than CA.

93. AquaShield
At some point in the past, a potential finish product called AquaShield was highlighted here. What is the status of the product?
For those who use PermaGloss or LumiSeal, which of the two last longer (do not harden as quickly)? Let's assume our significant other frowns on rod finish being stored in the fridge...
Has anyone used DiamondFinish (an auotmotive clear coat)?
Thanks and Happy T

size 4 is the smallest Fuji Alconite fly guide, to the best of my knowledge.

Hi - in your experience, is it reasonably easy to adjust the alignment of the guides when using this method?
Thanks

Charlie,
where do you find crappie pole blanks? They look like they could be very versatile.
Thanks,

To extend Mo's question, if I have the right amount of blank power to match the weight being cast, would a fast action or moderate action rod cast 1/50 to 1/32 oz lures farther?
Thanks,
Rick

101. Re: 3M Resin/Prepeg
What brands are made by Great Longview?
Will this mean more rod blanks using 3M technology will be available to rod builders?

This may be heresy, but I consider using custom rods for this event a bit of overkill.
Consider accumulating functional rods and reels through craigslist, freecycle or garage sales/ Goodwills. They will be much cheaper and just as fun for the occasional fisher person. A cheap custom rod may cost $15 for the blank, $5 for handle, $5 for guides - for a total of $25.

Or glue a foam arbor in place inside the reel seat, and ream the foam to size. You can get pretty tight tolerances that way.

104. Re: Micro Waves
Is the Microwave guide the only guide that gets placed before the first running guide (micro or other)?
If so, how far does the Microwave guide get placed from the reel?
Does the first running guide distance still get determined by the 27X rule?

Is there any CCS data on CTS blanks?
Would like to objectively compare them to St Croix offerings, and am interested especially in the Elite MagSpin series.
Thanks,

How would a hotshot rod work for a senko rigged with small #1 gamakatsu hooks? The added length may add to the distance of the cast for finesse tactics.

Joe,
While it may still be too long for fishing out of a small boat, Mudhole offers a HS 9000 in two pieces - the SJ9000-2-MHX

Hi - I found 3 coats of Permagloss works better long term and doesn't add appreciably to the weight. Welcome to "it's a small, small world"!

" your point of effort determines how any particular rod's action and power is going to be applied"
This statement seems to be a strong argument to extend rod blanks if done well, as long as:
1. The additional weight of the extension is not an issue
2. You want a faster action, longer rod with a slightly increased lure weight range
3. You are able to add the extension to the blank

Good evening! Has anyone used the Shikari ISJ 5300 as a spin jig rod blank? How does it compare to the Loomis SJR6400?
Thanks,

119. Re: cutting a blank
Good information, Chad!
Bill, I appreciate your statement that moving the reel seat up the blank will also reduce the power of the blank and make the action will slower. This does seem intuitive.
I wanted to learn if rod builders on this forum have experimented with reel seats mounted at or near the very butt of the blank, especially on light/ UL blanks where the added torque that results
