My cat is indifferent to my rod building, as the wrapper I work on is suspended on two saw horses and my cat is not interested in performing a high wire act.

Good point, Phil, although I certainly acknowledge that there are times when monofilament is preferred.
Rod sensitivity can be an important component of overall sensitivity to a fish's actions, But I have seen it said that often line watching serves as the best way to sense/ see a fishs bite.

Not sure I'd space my guides on an acid rod on this ratio - LOL

I do not think it is possible to sharpen them at home...

I think you should post the event on YouTube for independent review. Each can draw his or her own conclusions!
The post Billy mentioned earlier was intriguing because one of the options for a spinning set up involved placing the butt guide far away from the reel (some 35 inches). What's the consensus on that?
Thanks,
Rick

I save rod pieces, coat them with a slow drying epoxy, and apply abrasive. You can get whatever taper you want by choose the right piece of blank/ rod.

Hobie kayaks fare better in rough water environments like oceans, rivers or wind-blown lakes. The Native Watercraft kayaks resemble a canoe in some ways and are best suited to calm waters. As mentioned above, both have pedal drives.
If you plan on covering long distances or encountering windy conditions, a pedal drive is a good idea. Calm, very shallow waters lend themselves to paddlers.

I'll second the Tennessee type handle suggestion of around 6" or 7" in length, depending on your hand size.
If you make one vibronics style you will have a very light and sensitive rod. Additionally, you can make the carbon fiber Tennessee handle the exact diameter you prefer.
I'm experimenting now with creating handle "rings" out of a piece of a slip ring that is boun

Consider building the rod so the reel sits closer to the butt than it did in the original build - use the reel as a counterweight.

I'd guess the Minima guides would afford you the best combination of light weight and larger diameter guides - I am not sure how large they come.

At one point in time CCS data was being aggregated in a shared online database. This data is very useful to builders who needed an objective way to assess blanks that they had never built on.
Unfortunately, the CCS data available online is limited. How does a rod builder make use of that data if they have no basis for comparison? (i.e. have done CCS measurements on their own blanks or built o

I have built three rods on the LSJ781. It is a true spin jig rod with a strong butt section and a thin tip. I have not built on the 5S66LF but have held/ examined the production rod.
Based on the above, I'd say that the LSJ781 would make you happy if you like blanks that are fast and powerful yet can propel a light lure. The 5S66LF has a more moderate taper. I think of it as a trout rod with

Tom,
sorry for the confusion. I want to form a Vibronics-type rod using a hollow tube handle, say 1.4 inches in diameter and 10 inches long, out of carbon fiber. The handle could be formed around a silicon treated pipe, as noted above.
To do this, l might layer the first carbon fiber around the pipe and then place a rod blank between that first layer and a second layer. If I did that, the r

Can a rod blank be sandwiched between layers of carbon fiber? If so, how would you do this and maintain a round shape to the handle?

Curious - how does extending the rod increase its power?
Would it also increase the weight of lures the rod could handle?
Finally, it seems that extending a rod would make it faster.
I know generalities are often flawed, but generally speaking, I would have guessed that extending a rod would not significantly increase power, would enable the same lure weights to be used, and would make i
