122. Re: SC5 blanks?
There are a few new 2011 NSI blanks that weren't in the SCV lineup before. The tips seem especially thin, Does anyone know if these new blanks have altered designs to reflect the incorporation of NSI epoxy?
PS - can you help me understand what a 30% increase in strength means to the end user, given the same underlying blank design. My confusion stems from the Glossary definition of strength:

Thanks for providing me with an easy decision! I'd hate to put a lot of time and effort into a rod that might break.

Alex,
according to the seller, these were the original Heliums. I could not get the date or location of manufacture.
Thanks,

I have the opportunity to purchase some Kistler Helium I/ LTA blanks at a low price. I realize they will not be warranteed, but they are strictly for personal use and this is not a concern.
Does anyone on this board know what the equivalent of an LTA blank might be? Batson RX7? SC III? IMX?
Any guidance about the composition/ construction of this blank series?
Sensitivity?
Thanks,
Rick

Let me know how the T46s fish!
Are they fast/ extra-fast, etc?
Thanks,

I don't know an authoritative answer. With that caveat, it seems that if we allow 90 degrees maximum rod deflection, and divide that 90 degrees by 6 guides, the deflection should be around 15%. Inrease the number of guides, decrease the angle of deflection.

I have seen some chatter about these blanks, which were shown at the Expo.
What do we know about them?
Thanks,

What's you take on those European "Predator" rods with the solid graphite tips? The claim is great sensitivity - does it depend on the tip diameter?

Maybe this is a foolish question, but are we talking about LM, SM or striped bass?

Rolly,
I don't know where I have seen these, but am familiar with them. It occurred to me that the "dog leg" of an aluminum crutch might serve as the foundation for a custom-built handle, if you don't find a supplier.

If you have the opportunity to attend the Expo, you will find numerous blanks in the $15 to $20 range from which to choose, as well as a lot of great information on rod building. Ask questions - these people love to talk about their craft!

If you are willing, please let us know your experiences. Each knot has a different degree of difficulty associated with tying it. It would be good to get your opinion on which knot is reasonably easy as well as sufficently small.

Rick

David,
This message was copied from Microsoft Word and pasted into rodbuilding.org. It does seem the problem stems from your computer.

I have never seen the slantbridge except in pictures, but my immediate thought was that the bent portion of an old pair of aluminum crutches would serve as a useful starting point. Just cut to size.

My favorite general purpose bass rod to date has been Batson's RX7 ISB802.75 blank. Are you thinking of a bass blank or a SW blank, as Bob has suggested?
Here are the ISB802.75 specs , 6' 8", 1, 6-15, 3/16-5/8 .515, 5.0, X-Fast. I've used it wade fishing for smallmouth and for fishing out of a kayak. Very versatile as a bass blank, if that is your intent. A minimalist approach yields a be

146. Sign board
I just received some scrap sign board from a sign manufacturing company. It is 1.5 inches thick and is high density polyurethahane foam. It is used aa a wood substitute for dimensional sign making, and is extremely uniform in consistency. Not sure of the density, but it appeats to be greater than 8 lbs based on subjective feel.
Has anyone tried using this for rod grips?

149. Re: Thread Size C ?
What is the downside to using C vs. size A thread?
Threads are too distinct - do not pressent a cosmetic smooth surface.?
Added weight? Is this substantial in you are just using PG?
Fewer colors - from above
I started with C and still find it easier to wrap with than A (more forgiving) but primarily use A on my light rods.
Thanks,
Rick

Bob,
if you could design such a handle and provide grip comfort as well, I think you might be able to buy a private island for yourself!
