16681. Re: Guides for 6.5' fly rod
I've done 4's, but have not experimented with anything smaller.

I assume you're talking about the ringed guides, not the snakes. They should be fine for that purpose. I know that some complain about the sound of line running across them and it does sound different than the same line against ceramic rings. But I'm not aware of any damage being done to the line or the guides under normal use.

If you'll do a search on the "Grizzly Hobby Lathe" I think you'll find the information you want. It doesn't cost much and would allow you to carry your drill with you to have access to a simple lathe just about anywhere you can find a table.

16684. Re: A question for Tom
I spoke to the company that manages that site this morning and as funds allow I'm going to try and have them install a better "shopping cart." Something where you can do everything on the same order. I can appreciate the fuss over having to fill out multiple orders for multiple items such as subscriptions, back issues and CDs.

16685. Re: fly guide weights
The blanks you used are not identical, so keep that in mind. The way rod blanks are made precludes any pair from being absolutely identical.
The weight differences involved here are not enough to undermine anything. I might have used smaller running guides than you did but that's about it.
Weight does not affect rod action, but it does affect rod speed - the reaction and recovery time. Th

16686. Re: Special Edition RodMaker
Your subscription pays the material costs and postage for 6 issues and only leaves about 80 cents in the till. I can't include a 7th copy without raising your subscription fee. So no, sorry, the special edition is not included.

You would have to order them separately as they are different items. I wish the software on that site could do all items on the same page but it doesn't work that way.

Finely etched lines that form a picture or pattern, which are then filled with ink. It was quite common among sailors in the 18th and 19th centuries to scrimsher articles like whale's teeth.

Back issues can be done together - put in all your copies and then hit "add." Subscriptions are done separately. So yes, 2 orders if you are ordering a subscription.

You have to call or email Johnny for information. He's a good guy to talk to.

I get just .35 of an ounce for a style 16 skeleton.
Would weigh the others for you but I don't have them on hand.

For the tiptop, I would wrap on a single foot guide the same size and style as what you're using for the runners. That will save a little weight and allow you to stay at least as large as your running guides.

I almost want to ask if you showed that first decal to anyone prior to putting epoxy on it. I know what most people do when they view a wrap or decal - they run their finger across it.

There is nothing wrong with the sponsor links. Sponsors maintain their own websites.

The Fix-a-Tif is good, but the regular matte spray will do the same job. Nether contains anything that should react with your epoxy.

I can't tell you where it came from, but it's silicone. I've used the Krylon spray for over 15 years on homemade decals and never had this happen. I just don't think it's the Krylon. there's nothing in there that would cause the epoxy to react that way.
There's an easy way to tell - rig up a test and use the Krylon matte spray on one and not on the other. Do everything else the same, using t

Sort of. Epoxy doesn't dry - it cures by a reaction between the 2 component parts. There is no solvent in epoxy that needs to escape or evaporate. But PermaGloss contains a solvent that must completely leave the wraps before you can safely overcoat with epoxy.

A picture is worth a thousand words. You have experienced classic silicone contamination. I doubt it had anything to do with the Krylon, or the CP or the epoxy. Something containing silicone got on there, somehow. I don't have to guess - that is a textbook photo of what actual silicone contamination does to finish.
Silicone is contained in many products, including perfume and cologne. Anyone

This is something that you can only really determine by test casting. Generally, with mono you want the butt guide diameter to be at least half the diameter of the reel spool. Event then, it's not always the larger ring that you're after, but the added height that a larger ringed guide offers.

I asked about the glass bottle because that's the way the old nitrocelluose laquer CPs were packaged. There is still some out there and it was never very good. 20 and 25 years later it will be even worse.

You can safely overcoat PermaGloss with most any epoxy. However, you need to wait a full week before doing so in order to allow the PermaGloss to fully dry. If you apply the epoxy too soon you may trap some amount of solvent in the coating which will lead to problems.

Begin noticing the world around you - the colors used in ad campaigns on billboards by the roadside. What colors are used on golf bags. What colors major companies use in their company logos. This way, you're benefitting from the work of very talented commercial artists.
Karen Campbell does a seminar at the Expo on color combinations - she uses nature's own combinations such as the colors that

I think he is trying to say that he got just as good results with the heat method as he did with the vinegar soak method and the heat method was quicker/easier.
Kevin has done more work with the Abalone than anyone else and I'm sure he's continuing to work with other methods and can report back on them. He had told me a bit back that he was planning on making a heat method system available.

I still can't picture it but obviously one of the products you used reacted with another one. About the only way to tell what went wrong would be to try to duplicate the problem with a sample on scrap piece of blank. Leave off the Chromaseal, perhaps, and see if the same thing occurs. Or use a different finish and see if it occurs.

I'm not sure if there are still any ultra-high frame surf spinning guides being made. The HSVSG, which is what I think Barry meant, are perfect for butt guides on surf rods using large spinning reels. A 40 in that style is as high as a regular high frame 50, and the 30 is as high as a regular high frame 40.

Regular nylon thread will require color preserver to prevent it from being transparent and showing underlying layers or tag ends of another thread. Or you can use opaque NCP for your primary thread.
