Just looking at the specs on that blank, the MHX MB845 matches very close. I've built 1 for jigs and my customer has been pretty pleased with it.

Mudhole has a chart on their site: that has the weights for Fuji & American Tackle micro guides. That might be what you need.

For the grip you have, you can: Cut off the rubberized ring(s) Install the grip less ring(2) Glue the rubberized ring with the plug installed in the rubberized ring hole EZPZ and you'll never know the difference That's why I stopped using those grips.

If you like the way the seat fits your hand, then leave it like that. Rod building is like building ships in a bottle, if it looks like a wreck, just tell people you meant it to be that way.

Richard, Yes you can certainly use CP on the top thread if you are using regular nylon thread and want to retain that color.

If you don't have a sacrificial thread, you will not see the pattern as you've covered it up with the single thread wrap over the top. You have to leave some space there so the bottom wrap shows through. You also might want to try to very dissimilar colors on the bottom. The top thread gives your color and the bottom gives you the pattern. Also, don't forget to wrap the top thread in the oppos

That sounds like a flippin'/pitchin' stick. I replaced a friend of mine's flipping rod recently with the MHX FS905T and he's been happy with it. I don't remember the exact specs on the production rod but I'll see if I can get & post them for you to compare.

While I haven't tried Fishhwak threads, I've been pretty pleased with Pro Wrap from Mudhole. It's available in a wide array of colors, coupled with their twist, new thread and their metallics they're pretty much my only thread anymore. I'd caution against Maderia if you're new to wrapping as you can have a beautiful wrap but then ruin it with a bad finish job. If you go that route, a couple of c

I recently built an S841 for a friend of mine that fishes a few crappie tournaments around here and he's been very pleased with it so far. He & I have been talking about the Hi Mod P842 as well but haven't settled the details yet.

Since we're all recommending guides, Capt. Mike Hakala does a great job. He's designed and built rods, continues to build some of the finest spoons available and is an overall great guide.

The St. Croix maybe lighter but I would bet that the Hi Mod MHX is more sensitive. Those blanks have been very well received by everyone that has fished them. Not just my opinion.

Tipping is just that, a tip. Several of my guide buddies work their tails off trying to put their clients on a fun trip, if they catch fish then it's a bonus. I know that sounds strange but if I'm fishing with the south end of a north bound mule, no amount of fish is worth my money. So me a good time, do your best and let the fish decide if they want to bite is all I ask of a guide. I also have f

Based on my experience, the MHX P843 or SJ843 would be my first choices. I'd let the style of fishing be my final deciding factor. If he's throwing live bait of popping corks, go with the P843, if he's throwing plugs go with the SJ843. Both blanks are available in the original & the high mod series with the SJ843 also in the new white line up. While we don't get snook this far north in Flori

Sounds like you might be looking for a popping or live bait type blank. They tend to be fast actions but with "light" tips for casting fragile live baits. Something along the lines of the MHX P-842 would do a pretty good job for bass and inshore saltwater applications. But, I could be wrong.

Jim, I would imagine that with the small cracks and runs in abalone, that there is plenty for the finish to adhere to. Probably nothing went wrong with the finish but it the split grip area is living int he rod holder, there's your culprit.
