The MHX MB842 will match that blanks as 7' as close as anything & will probably be lighter than the St. Croix.

I heard there was a great turn out. As I understand it, there were quite a few vendors there. Anyone of note there?

I've been very pleased with Prowrap. The color selection is huge & they have more in stock than most will ever need.

The paint & finish on the white MHX blanks is pretty sweet. Bright, tough and flawless. Give them a try, you'll enjoy them.

Mudhole & American Tackle are 2 different companies, they just have somewhat common ownership, as I'm told anyway.

I may be biased but, they are sweet blanks that have some great features such as the individual serial numbers, transferable warranty & technique specific listing for each blank. You'd be very hard pressed to find a larger selection of high quality blanks at any price point.

You'll be fine with those guides, in fact you could probably go down in size on your runners depending on your line connections.

Something along the lines of the MHX L844 would be a great rod for this. Plenty if back bone but a moderate action to handle any boat side surges.

The MHX S842-2 is a 4-8# 2 pc and is the closest I've been able to locate.

I've always used trolling rods for umbrella rigs but then again, we were trolling. Thanks for the info and research Steve.

Brook beat me to it. The Am Tack Artus HD's look pretty beefy.

The Hi Mod SJ843 or MB 843 might be the closest you can find to cover all those techniques. This series of blanks have proved to me to be a much better blank (weight and price point are 2 areas that come to mind) than the IMX or GLX blanks. Add to that the transferable warranty and I believe you'll be very happy.

Why not the MHX S6010.? It matches the specs others have laid out and the warranty ain't bad either.

Depending on your knot/connection size, I would order an 8 or 10 then drop right down to your running guides. You save a bunch of weight and, again, provided they'll pass your knots, have a better rod.

I typically use sch 40 PVC which I have a lot of and caps instead of tape on the ends. Never had 1 broken this way but if it can be broken they'll figure out how.

I wrap mine on a power wrapper bed & stand but turn by hand. You could probably do it by using the motor but I like my chances of not screwing up doing it this way.

The MHX SB812, which is available in the original, hi mod and white. The white is a pretty sweet looking and very durable finish.

Put tape around the tubing where you intend to cut it and the mark the tape. Cut with either a band saw or very sharp hacksaw.

You'll need to know how far up the blank you want to put the reel seat. Then you can either call/e-mail Mudhole and ask them to measure it at this location. Mudhole has also taken the time to measure each blank in 2' increments from the butt and have listed them on their site as a pdf file. Original Series Hi Mod Blanks
