I've built two Point Blank rods now and love them. Next build will probably be their PB691MXF to keep my PB691MLXF company.
They are built using all Fugi gear from tip tops to thread...
Wish they built surf rods...

Roger,
Thanks. This will be strictly for 3-6 oz bait fishing. The rod will be staked.

Been awhile since I've done a butt wrap on a large (this one is a 13', 3-6 oz) saltwater blank. I usually wrap in A thread to keep the guide section light. Looking (make that "attempting") to wrap Clemens Custom Rod Thread Art number 54-A or 55 ( Four Arrows by Bob Dietz).
Appreciate any assistance,
Thanks

Thanks for inputs. Hoping it will be a light rod when done (it has to be lighter than it's original build weight of 9.34 oz!). My PB 761MHXF came in around 4.7oz.

Thanks for your input.
Rod has two duties:
(1) Flipping and pitching and
(2) Casting HB frogs.
This is my dedicated SLOP rod. 65 lb braid is all I ever use. The Berkley X9 65 braid is like 50 lb diameter. No knots -.straight from to lure.

Renovating and old 7' casting rod with up-to-date Fugi grips, reel seat, and guides. The rod before stripping weighed in at 9.34 oz. The stripped rod blank now weighs 2.33 oz.
The planned KR Concept reduction train is:
LKW10-LKW6-KB4-KB4-KB4-KT4-KT4-KT4-KT4-KT4-LG tip top. All guides are CG silver Alconite.
Looking for a suggested line guide to stripper guide distance. Looking at a PB76MHX

All my rods use a thinned first coat of Flex Coat High build with DNA per Flex Coat instructions.

Finished rod. Worked great in Erie as well as casting spoons for trout in the North Branch of the Potomac in Western Maryland/West Virginia.
6 and 8# mono used.
Thanks for all that helped with this build.

Swapping out the reel seat and woven grip for Fugi TVS and Winn AR grips reduces the total weight to just over 4 oz. I like the Minima4 guides.

I just weighed the entire setup before I start assembling it.
Blank: 2.1 oz
Blank with Minima4 guides, Aero 17 reel seat, and 12" woven carbon fiber grip/cap comes in at under 5.92 oz. I guess that is not too heavy for a 9'6" streelhead rod.
Epoxy, arbors, and thread would add some weight.

Question - For the four guide reduction train (KL16H-8H-6M-5.5L) going to three KB-4's, would the KB-4 then become the "choke" guide as it is the smallest guide -or- do I mount the 16H stripper and KL5.5L (choke guide or not?) and use these two guides as references to mount the remaining 8H and 6M guides?
Who's the choke guide - the KLH-5.5L or the KB-4?
Thanks

Jim Ising helped me build a Point Blank 7'6" flip/pitch rod last year using the Fugi KR Concept guides (down to size 4 KT runners).
Using AR Winn grips the rod is a dream to use (all day flipping, pitching and frog fishing in slop with 65# braid) and it comes in under 4 oz.

What color Fugi LG tip (Alconite black, etc?) would match the MInima and G TiBlack guide color?

Thanks so much for everyone's input. I am going to try the KR 3 and 4 guide trains for both the Fugi and Minimas (M, F, and FM tip top) and set them up KR and see which one works best for my multi-purpose rod.

Check out my thread on "KR Concept for a Winter Steelhead rod". They helped me with the SI 9'6"rod I am building.

Thanks for all inputs.
For the amount of Winter steelhead fishing that I plan on doing (Oct/Nov/ and Mar/April, I think I will keep my original train of KL18H, KL8H, KL6M, KL5.5L, KB4, KB4, KB4, KT4, KT4, KT4, KT4, and LG4 (4.0). I think I would rather deal with the ice when it happens and build my rod for durability and sensitivity. Not really impressed with the Mina Match guides from a dur

I was advised to use #8 running guides for a 9'6" steelhead spinning rod for fishing Erie and the Salmon river during colder months to prevent icing on the guides.
Is it possible to use the Fugi KR Concept for this build or should I consider something else like the cone-of-flight setup?
Thanks

85. Thanks Tom!
Tom,
I want to Thank You for introducing me to rod building. In 2001, I had a bunch of questions regarding rod building and you graciously sent me a copy of your Rod-Building Guide, which I still reference to this day. You even autographed it!
Your book inspired me to build a surf rod capable of casting large Krocadyle spoons long distances to hungry striped bass and bluefish in the Maryla

I have built only one PB rod - PB761MHXF and use it for just about everything now - flipping, frogging, and especially large top water fishing. I am now in the process of building another one - PB691MLXF as a dropshot/finess rod, KR style, Winn AR grips. This is one light blank! Love their rods!

Jim,
7'6" it is! Looking at Steve's build gave me some ideas for my rod. I like the way he used double red bands on the blank to mirror the double red PF trim! I will be using Fuji SIC micros but will not do a spiral wrap.
I was planning at using red, black, and silver thread but it looks like I will need to add a gray to my custom threadwork (Clemens #54A design).
Again - really

Steve,
Sweet!
I'm getting ready to start my PB build after I rework an "Old Brown" SCV rod I built years ago.
For the PB blank, I went with the PB861MHXF rod and the same PF trim colors you have. I'll be using the AR Winn hidden thread sleeve instead.
How does the rod balance with the extra long butt section?

Tom,
Thanks - for clarification, i would need to do set 1 ";line 1), then set 2 "line 1", then set 1 "line 2", then set 2 "line 2", and so forth?
